My Population caps prematurely

I dont know where to post this, is there a support thread?  I did not see one, I am assuming this is a bug, or I am over-looking a game mechanic..  I tried searching before posting.

Anyways,

On some of my worlds, my population caps before reaching the maximum.  An example, Mars population is currently at 6.92B and its approval raiting is at 90%+ and will not go past that number (after several turns - tested many times).

I have tried purposely raising taxes to lower morale to lose population, and than lower taxes, to raise morale to increase my population, but it will not go past 6.92 billion.

This is the same situation on several of my other worlds, (just with different numbers; one of my worlds is stuck at 10.29 with a 12 billion population maximum).

I recently started playing the bigger maps (huge, gigantic), and I keep running into this problem nonstop, its pretty much a game breaker.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Besides the farms, there is a population growth cap based on planet quality. IIRC, only planets below PQ6 will have problems filling to the original colony cap and those under PQ8-9 will have problems filling to 12b. anything over 10-11 will fill to pretty much any practical population. There is some formula that defines this behavior, but I'm too tired to search for it right now. Perhaps Sole Soul will drop in and provide it

Important note: these planets can hold the population the farms will support, they just won't grow there on their own. You can ferry people in from other planets using colony or troop ships.

Evidently, things have changed a slight amount or the calculation for max pop isn't correct at the Wiki.  According to the Wiki site, the max populations are...

  • PQ 1 = 0.16 b.
  • PQ 2 = 0.54 b.
  • PQ 3 = 1.28 b.
  • PQ 4 = 2.50 b.
  • PQ 5 = 4.32 b.
  • PQ 6 = 6.86 b.
  • PQ 7 = 10.24 b.
  • PQ 8 = 14.58 b.
  • PQ 9 = 20.00 b.
  • PQ 10 = 26.62 b.
  • PQ 11 = 34.56 b.
  • PQ 12 = 43.94 b.
  • PQ 13 = 54.88 b.
  • PQ 14 = 67.50 b.
  • PQ 15 = 81.92 b.
  • PQ 16 = 98.26 b.
  • PQ 17+ = 100 b.

Your numbers suggest that the number is slightly higher, but not by much.

My guess is the numbers haven't changed, it is just a variation of the phenomenon that causes extra HP on repaired ships. You get full growth for the turn where the planet reaches the cap, even if that growth puts the planet slightly above the growth cap.
