2v2 Reg? Help!

Hey Guys,

I am having trouble playing Reg in 2v2. This is not the case in 3v3+ where I generally do the most DPS out of anyone in the game

The problem lies with me not being able to level fast enough and since their are fewer heroes, there is more focus placed on me an I tend to die more. I ussually play very defensively, its not that I am taking dumb chances, but at some point I need to get some creeps, or flag caps so I can level.

I ussually get (in order of importance) Snipe, AF, Stats, however I do get Tracking and Mark of the Betrayer as soon as they are available.

I do not use mines, and here is why:

Mines do not scale well, they are a waste of skill points endgame. They do help take down creeps quickly and they can be an asset againts heroes till around lvl 12-13ish where it then drops off pretty quick.

Now if I can get to late game and have a bunch of gold, and Mage Slayer and Ashkandor will allow me to own with AF. I will destroy everything. Snipe with tracking becomes almost more of a utility than DPS (since it allows our team to see the location of heroes)

but my problem is I don't get that far. I am so weak early game It never really happens. In 3v3 I can at least go where enemey demigods are ignoring or I can get the final shot in with snipe. Also since there are more creeps I have less of a chance of getting ganked when trying to level, versus single lane maps like Prison.

Anyone have any ideas?

Well you said it yourself.  "They do help take down creeps quickly"

If you can't take down creeps quickly, you will level and get gold slower.

Don't underestimate the AOE in this game.  Especially ones that are an instant 2700 damage and 30% slow to any demigod who needs to melee you.

If you're getting both Mageslayer and Ashkandor in every game, your games are taking too long/you aren't upgrading the citadel enough.

If you're only using snipe for knowing where the enemy are, you may as well just save your skill points and get totem of revelation.  They're only 50g each.

On a map like Prison, I'd probably completely ignore all active skills, which means I don't have to get any mana items at all and instead focus it all on health/armor.  AF, stats, range, cripple.  The huge single lane makes avoiding mines too easy and makes snipe less useful because of how close the action tends to be where it's probably faster to just chase someone with 300 damage/hit.

Also, prison is a stupid map anyway.

It wouldn't let me quote, so I hope that worked.  Anyway, I'm just curious where the 2700 damage comes from?? I think the highest level of mines is 3 mines at 450 dmg each ~ 1350 dmg.  MoB would only be an extra... 800 dmg i believe?

I am certainly not getting those every game (I wish lol), If I at least got to that point I would have a shot with my giant AF crits and life steal.

I have never tried giving reg more health but I will give it a shot and see where it gets me.

Thanks for the great reply!

Dont give Snipe much priority.  Give it one point at level 3 then leave it alone for a very long time.  It doesnt help you level substantially.  Go AF level 1, Stats level 2, Snipe level 3, then you should be hitting up AF and Stats at all possible opportunities except for perhaps a point in MoB and eventually Scope when you get to the point where you are messing with towers (which is fairly late actually).  Remember that speed, AF, and Stats are the key to levelling, and thats what you should really be concentrating on early.

Snipe is always your first skill you start harassment from the second the game starts

Just because something doesn't scale well to end-game doesn't mean you shouldn't use it, the skills that are great start to mid game are the ones that will be putting you ahead of your opponents and getting you kills or forcing them back to base, a few early kills/denials of experience and flags can win the game, rather than planning for level 15+ with TWO artifacts and being sub-par till then, punish your opponents during early game instead and win before the game even gets that far.

I see a lot of people saying "Once I get Ashkando my build is complete"... umm, don't base your game around end game items.  I prefer the push first and push fast strategy. End the game early before abilities "stop scaling". I don't like letting my opponents get to level 15 personally. If they get to 20 then either we are on a really long map or we dicked around too much.

I'd say use your team. Communicate, work on pushing / staying together and try to win ASAP. If you are almost up to their cid and you notice you have 8k+ gold ask if your team mate has gold for cata's and if not go for cata's. Otherwise sure, go grab a nice item but that gold may be better spent helping your team other ways.

Just my opinion and maybe I'm wrong. /shrug

I dont agree with that, but the difference between when you want it (level 1) and when I want it (level 3) isnt really substantial.  A few minutes maybe.  I like going AF and UE because this helps me creep kill right off the bat (which is my primary goal right away, harassment comes later), and with those two skills and the right items I stand a good chance against some DGs straight up early in the game.  If you take Snipe, you have to harass only because you have no hope of standing toe to toe.
