Comments on the game balance after fixing tech trading

OK, I'm playing a game on huge with 5xgenius AI. The tech trading seems MUCH better. In previous games I was able to routinely get 1000+bc from tech leases and not really have to worry about my other income sources. Now I'm getting 100+bc, and have to work hard to make ends meet :) Say goodbye to the technology party...
Minor races are CONSTANTLY broke, and after the initial wave of leases it's nearly impossible to get any money from them. I suppose every major race is demanding money from them, so they have a really hard time after the patch.
But still, being able to aggresively trade techs with all the major and minor races is a huge advantage. AI doesn't seem to be doing this as much. Once I have a decent tech, I can pretty much catch up by trading it to all the AIs for different stuff. And then, the outcome of the game is almost decided. I have an advantage diplomatically, and since I have superior technology from trading I can make the entire galaxy go to war with each other, and finish them off one by one. Or so I hope, I haven't finished the game yet, but I'd be surprised if they offered much resistance.
So: maybe it's a good idea to have AIs trade techs more aggresively between each other, and make it a bit more difficult to make one race attack another (my primary way of keeping out of trouble until I get Dreadnoughts... and then it's game over).

Maybe I'll have to take some of that back when the game surprises me... I sure hope that will happen.

Check your debug.err, I htink you'll find they are trading tech quite a bit back and forth.

I found 21 tech trades in 5 years, mostly between major races, but some of them also involving minors (there are 4 minor races in the game). Whether it's too much or not enough depends on the player's style, I guess. But tech trading remains a strong strategy (although you can pretty much forget about leasing) - you don't have to spend much on research to keep up once you've made contact with other races.
About making races attack each other... I forgot that I set all of them to pure/chaotic evil (to see how it goes), so that might be making it easier than it should be. In my next game I'll use the default alignments.
