Two Wooden Nickels

I sold my soul at the flea market today
some would call it a crime
All I got was two wooden nickels
the equivelency of a dime

I served my term not too long ago
for commiting a little crime
They locked me up for twenty long years
the equivelency of my life

I met a woman a little down the road
she hitched me a ride
I had my faith in my back pocket
right there next to my pride

I was headed back to see my baby
the one that I'd left behind
I loved her dearly, she had my child
I figured she wouldn't mind

Upon the door banged these worn knuckles
I waited for what seemed like years
A beautful face, it finally answered
I broke down in tears

Can I help you mister, what is it you need
I heard the women say
If you need the lady who used to live here
She has passed away

I left that house out in the country
where I was headed I didn't know
I needed money, two wooden nickels
so I sold my soul

This is really, really good. I don't know if you intend this to be a poem or a song, but it stands either way. I hear finger-picking when I read this...
