Some thing I really do not want in a GalCiv expansion.

I really do not want "steal a tech" in this excellent game. Such an ability would push the game to far towards turning into a war game particularly if good advantage could be gained by whoring the stolen tech to every civilisation in the galaxy. That may the risk of war worthwhile. Also can be abused to start wars, steal and hope to get caught so the other guy declares war! If too many aggressive options are put in then the AI must use them which in turn forces the human to use them and on it goes in a spiral of ever increasing aggression.

You actually can win this game peacefully. I finished my first game yesterday with a cultural win and to my considerable surprise the AI did not gang up when it became evident I would get a cultural win. I hope it stays that way. :)

Sorry to disappoint you Peter but we already have a small chance to steal a tech by getting Advanced Espionage and targeting a more advanced race.

But I believe you are referring more to the Civ equivalent where a spy unit could be deployed to steal a tech. Well yes, there has been some suggestions in the Espionage suggestion thread to this effect. Maybe you should contribute your concerns there as well.

Yes, I believe the game was designed to allow for different paths to victory including peaceful ones. It was again tweaked recently to strengthen the ability to avoid war through diplomacy. :)

Actually I was thinking of Civ along with a couple of other games. In Civ2 it was just a racket but fortunately in Civ3 it is very expensive and chancy to steal which helps calm things down a lot. :)
Umh, the peaceful options in Civ2 were actually far more violent than the warlike options for me.
If the chance of success is small and the cost very high I can live with it so long as the AI does not make a habit of the theft.

Unfortunately some people are loudly clamouring for the usual More aggressive options, more units blah blah blah. If they got what they say they wanted it may turn into a second rate war game instead of the absolutely first rate strategy game that it now is. :)

It may or may not, but just remember that you have a choice on whether to download the expansion or not.
