Dumbest newb question ever

Just picked-up the game and am playing through the tutorials. I have been a big fan of strategy games for a long time and so far I am VERY impressed with this game and plan on spending way more time than I should playing it. And now my stupid question...How do you win??? I looked all over in the manual and online but I don;t see any victory conditions. Are there multiple ways to win (such as in the CIV games) or do you just need to totally eliminate all opponents forces in the galaxy? I know this is really stupid but I don't see how to win listed anywhere...lol 8C

Thanks for tolerationg a stupid question:grin:

The main victory condition is to eliminate all the enemies' planets. In multiplayer, you can also achieve victory if all players have surrendered or if all their planets are lost.

Well the AI's also do surrender early on occasion, so you don't ALWAYS have to destroy everything.  But yes, you're trying to conquer all opposition to win.

Ways to achieve victory are,

Siege and wipe out all of your enemy's colonized planets.

Have them surrender.

If you have a peace treaty with another faction, you won't actualy have to wipe them out.

Few things to keep in mind,

AI basicly never surrenders.

AI must allways be at war with someone no matter what.

i once was playing a game where i was allied to 2 of 3 AIs, and when the AI with no friends lost, the game kept going. Why?

Did you have a peace treaty or just a cease fire with the other AI's?

As said, you basically have to blow all of your enemies up or come close too it. However, the new expasion is rumored to have more game modes that could change this (perhaps in addition to editing the AI surrender conditions).

Killing all planets is not enough - they have to be unable to get back into the game. This means no planets and no colonising ships (cap or frig)

After the last patch or so, the AI is more likely to surrender

In MP, you need to eliminate all human opponents (by them dropping/quitting/surrendering) assuming that no AI started. If an AI is on the team, you need to eliminate all AI opponents

The AI's surrender program is actually quite good, it seems like it rage quits if you deal it an absolutely catastrophic defeat in a space battle, (like wipe out a maxed cap fleet) you dont even have to go after the planets then. Im not sure exactly how it is calculated, but you will notice the action you perform that 'tips it over the edge' like a big victory in a battle or even just novalitihing a planet.

Hey... thanks guys... I just started playing yesterday and had exactly the same question. :D

In the case where you were allied with multiple AIs, the game would keep going until no faction is at war with another.  More than likely two of your allies were at war with each other.

No it doesn't - capital planet gives you bonus including alligence levels - you need to pay to setup a new planet as a capital

but it is not game over unless it is your last one and you have no other colony ships
