how to get peace without a treaty!

i don't know if this has been posted before, but i have been able to get peace without having to get a treaty. i just simply give away a planet or two and check the treaty page. i always give away a planet that will return back to the fold in a few turns. this has worked several times.

This won't work in 1.04. It will say "Thanks for the stuff but we're still gonna squash you."

On a related note I have been able to start wars when the Parliament votes against it. I just ring up some alien (whoever happens to be at war with my intended victim) and offer to attack whoever I wanted to attack, they accept my generous offer.

It seems like an exploit, not that it matters in a single player SP game.

NB. My game is "straight out of the box", no patches or downloads.

Good one, Peter. Didn't cross my mind that you avoid the Senate vote by selling Attack treaties.

That is cool.

I personally think the Senate over-ruling you is bogus anyway. If you want to do it, you'll find away. You could also simply insult them so bad they get angry and start a war with you.

I think you should be able to over-ride the Senate in exchange for a temporary morale hit.

By the way, you can give your declaration of war to any civ, not just at war with target civ. Perhaps Za H posted this trick first, but i'm not sure.
