ow do i open up teh chat menu

In online multiplayer? What exactly do you mean? In a game you would press <Enter> which would bring up the chat bar at the top of the screen. Typing /a and then what you want to say sends it only to your teammates. /f "<name>" sents a private message to a friend. You can press <TAB> to scroll through the /w options.
