How can that be explained?

Yesterday I started a game with all AI's on random (alignment as well as intelligence).

Arceans: Intelligent, Pure Good
Altarians: Bright, Pure Good
Torians: Sub-Normal, Neutral
Yor: Beginner, Chaotic Evil
Drengin: Fool, Neutral

The Arceans were stuck with 2 systems because they had the Alexians and Drengin blocking their path and so the Altarians were the Superpower all the time and soon enough my Ally. From that point I knew I would win!
When I honoured the alliance with the Altarians and joined the war with the Torians, they surrendered their 7 Systems to the Yor in the nextr turn and only one turn after that the Yor surrendered there now 9 Systems to me, making me even bigger than the Altarians!
I never fought a single battle and so finished the game very quickly.

What shocked me then was the very high amount of score I got for this game: http://www.galciv.com/info.asp?accountID=642503

Why that? It was one of the easiest games I ever had since the Altarians were at least friendly to me from the beginning on!

The game with my smallest score was a lot harder! Another thing... I thought that a good game like Galciv sold quite good and so is played by lots of people. How comes I am within the Top 500 with that still compareably low amount of score?

Can we randomise difficulty? Didn't think we could.

The scores for 1.04 got more generous. I believe this was done to motivate players to upgrade to the more robust version.

I have seen higher beginning level scores for 1.04 (bigger maps).

Well I guess not all 50,000 of us enjoy competing on the Metaverse. With pre-1.04 scores nerfed/aged and with higher scores for 1.04, regular 1.04 players could rise up the rankings rather quickly.

End of quote

Of course we can, we always could! What did you think are the little dices next to the Alignment and Intelligence Adjusters for?

I love that feature because when I select a certain difficulty setting I know that I'd lose or win before even starting the game but with setting it to a random one it's more exciting for me!

However, one thing I don't like when doing that is the little "cake" in the bottom left in the game, where I immediately see when someone is fool or increadlible just from having a look at the size of his piece.

One shall not be able to see that for races one has no contact or even better no average espionage with! It spoils too much!

I almost always randomise alignment but not difficulty. Guess I must have missed the dices next to the difficulty. :)

Strange! You knew that it's there for Alignment but not for intelligence? It looks exactly the same! Hard to imagine, how one could miss that!

Andrew,

I pulled in a score nearly that high yesterday with a cultural win in a medium galaxy and all AI on beginner. I was pretty surprised too.
I've gotten the impression from some of the vets that speed of finish is an important factor and it sounds like your game was quick. Staffa and others noted in the thread I started yesterday "Metaverse scoring shock" that there are some issues like this (easier games getting better scores than hard fought games) yet seemed to agree that the current scoring is still improved.

Sounds like your game was interesting.
