Stardock and update question

Put Stardock Central on your office machine. Use it to "download and archive"; be warned that this means download everything, not just the patch, into one big .zip file for the main game (and .zip files for the multimedia or whatever else you download-and-archive). Then write 'em to a CD, Zip disk, or whatever else you use. At home, copy the files into, er, SDC's "backup" directory if memory serves (might be "backups"), and there should be a restore option.

Sure. I don't see any reason why not. I did that with the Public Release of 1.035 and it worked fine. I have Internet Access at home and at work but like to do my downloading from work (it's a faster connection). Just download the file to your Desktop. Then copy it to a Zip drive and transfer it home. This of coarse assumes you have a zip drive at home and at work. If not, then I believe there is a way to copy a file onto multible Floopy Disks. I know there is but I haven't used a floopy in a long time so sorry because I can't tell you how to do that.

I registered my galciv account on this computer,
abut whenever I tried to download and archive Galciv,
the program shut down. More so, everytime I click on one of the items (such as Gal civ) in the drenigen.net window, I get a pop-up that says, "Critical Error creating application information. PLease reinstall the application to correct this problem."
This is somewhat aggravating- all I want to do is to download and archive the update at work, and then install it at home. Any help would be appreciated.

What if you uncheck download and archive? If you can just download galciv normally, you can just burn the galciv folder to a cd. Since you're not worried about submitting scores from home, you wouldn't have to worry about the registry keys.

I think I may have figured out the root cause, but Im no closer to solving the problem. Every time I open Stardock, it asks me to me a create a stardock.net account- even though I have signed in, and have put in my registration number. If I try to login (by clicking submit), it starts to download sdcentral.zip, then stops, and goes back to the same screen- as such, I just click skip, and it warns me I won't be able to download any updates. Im somewhat confused, since stardock recognizes me as a user, has my resitration information, but won't let me update.
By the way, it crashed when I tried to just download it normally as well.

Aadik, this ain't a usual experience - this works for most of us. Keep trying!

Try going to Tools/Settings and the Connections tab. Change the server. Try entering some proxy values if that is relevent to your workplace. And perhaps uninstall SDC, and download it fresh?

thanks for the advice- did try that. One little detail- I still get that damn pop-up about a critical error or whatever, but I realiezed the button next to galciv says install, instead of download- either way, when I try to download and archive by right clicking, it starts and then stardock shuts down. Im curious as to what other people who download the updates from work (using stardock, not standalone) or somewhere other then where the game is installed.

It does that here too, but when I hit the 'Skip' button, the SDC logs in normally and everythinh works fine.
