HoL too strong?

HoL too strong?

Heart of Life is easily my favorite item in demigods. I get one on nearly every character, its often the first item I buy after the initial 1000g.

That sort of led me to question the fairness of this item. I've seen it used in a wide variety of ways. QoT + bubbble, oak + invuln, popping it in unison with erebus mist for a free full mana bar, and just as a basic regen mechanic. Its your crystal away from the crystal. But is that really ok?

The heart nearly invalidates helmets and mana pots. Even on a lvl 15-20 TB all I really seem to need mana wise is a crown and a heart. With 3k mana on a 25s cooldown it really allows me to spam spells, by the time i'm actually oom its usually up again. It doesn't save me from hard pushes, but it makes me immune to harassment, which should be a HUGE part of the game. What does regen and general harassment mean if every 25s you get a free health/mana bar?

Anyone else feel this item may need to be toned down? Maybe increase the passive bonus and reduce it to a 1500/1500 on a 40s CD?

The item should be removed from the game entirely. The ability to duck back and heal fully within a couple seconds is just far, far too good to exist at all, and completely undermines a number of game mechanics like harassing. Also, if your speed is even marginally above that of another player, it allows you to run, heal AS THEY'RE WATCHING YOU, and come back for rape. The entire concept is totally flawed.

If it *must* remain in the game, it should have a large cast time, larger recharge time, cost much more, and necessitate standing still for the duration of the effect, or something similar.

Removal is overkill. Longer cooldown was a reasonable suggestion, so was increasing the passive bonuses in exchange for lower total health/mana restored.

From my observation as a player new to the online scene, it seems to me that the HoL is just too good to pass up.  Is there honestly any reason why a player would not buy the HoL if he couldn't afford it?  The only example I could think of would be an arranged team passing around a HoL between players but I imagine that kind of thing is rare in a PUG due to trust/self preservation issues.

at least i know 2 DG which do not need HoL,

ooze beast dont need it lategame because its health pool is much larger than a hol effekt would last, u got some good regen ² so u can rest urself.

sedna do not need this if the can handel her mana well.

That doesn't work as well as you would expect, you still have to wait for the cooldown timer before you are able to drop it.

I would like to vote for a nerf of this item.

On large maps, it completely negates the need for the crystal at the home base.

Just give it a 3s cast, to stop in-fight casting, maybe increase the cost a bit.

Considering every player can get one how is it OP? it's not like it's an exclusive item. If all players have HoL then it's even... if they don't then someone doesn't knwo what they are doing and will lose anyhow.

Err, if he can't afford it? Because he can't afford it. o0

I don't always buy it, even if I can afford it, because it lowers your stats by an effective 4.25k gold. That's a good bit of money that could be spent on helpful citidel upgrades, more HP armor, better attack damage, etc. In a pinch, you just honestly can't always afford it, and I think a lot of players will agree with me there.

Ehh, I've stopped using the thing altogether. I'd probably use it with Oak for the combo, and QoT too (maybe). Maybe Erebus, since I could proooobably do without tele scrolls. But otherwise I can hardly justify the room for it.

My mid to late game inventory looks like this

Capture Lock
Teleport Scroll
Sigil of Vitality

The first one, to LOCK THE F****** FLAG. The second one, while LOCKING THE F****** FLAG, you can get out, go to the other side and LOCK ANOTHER F****** FLAG, or just go where're you're needed in general. And the third one, since I'm usually stacking health, getting +8k instantly with the sigil allows me to escape a gank, or get a kill under heavy fire and get out of harm in time. Most importantly, it can't be interrupted. Seriously, can't live without those things anymore, so useful.

No room for HoL.

i don't need hol either...at least that's when i play tb and i do most of the time. my health and mana regens will be so crazy that there's just no need for hol.

but everytime i'm confronted with someone using it, i realize he's so much harder to defeat. this might be especially because tb kind of relies on harassing his enemy some time from range before engaging entirely. hol negates...  :l

Look, you can't use HoL with Bramble Shield like you do with Oak's shield. You still get hit and it still breaks the effect.

This is a bad line of logic.  Pretend we were talking about a nuclear bomb instead of HoL.  Every player is given equal access to the nuke at their item shop.  The nuke kills every player on the opposing team.  It's undercosted for the effect it provides.

Just because everyone has access to the nuke, does that make the nuke balanced?

Just because everyone has access to a powerful item, does that make the item balanced?

No.

FYI, I'm happy with HoL.  I wouldn't object to some tweaks but I'd be just as happy if it was left alone.
