Resource disappeared entirely from the map (1.04 patch)

Spotted an unexploited military resource and sent a Constructor on its long journey there. A couple of turns later I went back to check on it and the resource was gone! The Autopilot destination pointed at empty space. I have the 1.04 patch installed. Is this a bug? I didn't think there were any resource-cloaking technologies ...

What probably happened is that an AI race beat you to it (thus removing the resource from your minimap), but that you don't have anybody within sensor range of that square (which is why you don't see a starbase there yet).

One thing that people have requested is for resource markers to persist in at least some form even when there's a base on top of them, which makes sense as there's nothing in the game which can move or eliminate a resource; ergo, once you see it, you should know that it's always going to be there.

I don't know...it can actually be a pretty valuable piece of information when that resource disappears off the map.

Ah, I'd been wondering whether Terror Stars interacted with resources at all but never gotten around to testing it...

Have you tried moving one from one resource to another? Hm.

The Terror Star drags the resource with it in tow. In a huge war were a resource may be in danger, I could see the possibility of moving a resource to a more defensible position.

I had samekind of problem. With difference that I was attacking enemy sb and the resource went down with sb, which I don't get.. My version is 1.01 tho :P

but hey, I've been looking for to build those white stars, how does that happen? :P

Yes you are correct Twirlip. When I sent a scout within sensor range sure enough the Drengin had a miltary starbase there already. It would be nice if the resource did not disappear from the map, but I guess that does convey some information. Brings up another question - is there any way to tell what upgrades an AI race has built on their starbases?

Drizzt -- Yeah. Just select it and double-click; you'll find out what sorts of bonuses its giving.

Ah yes, the obscure, little-known double-click! That hadn't occurred to my battle-weary mind at 4:00 AM. There's more fuel for the GF's "come to bed now" argument!

You can also select it then click on the info button (the round one with the "i") at the bottom of the screen where the name of the starbase and basic stats are given.
