Starting Game with less aliens?

How do you start with less aliens races? In the case that I only want to play against one really bad guy?

I believe that is hard coded in. Don't think it can be changed.

Not quite. If you click on the portraits in the setup screen it toggles between the given race and a "blank" picture for 'no alien'.

So, yes, you can do the 1 on 1 if you want.
