Help!

So I am a complete newb when it comes to this game. I have played 4-5 matches online and I have lost them all. I have killed a demigod maybe once out of those five games. I'm beginning to think that there is some sort of general strategy that I am missing when it comes to playing the game. I like to use Sedna and Torch Bearer, so if anyone has any tips or strategies for me to improve my game, I'd love the help!

Mmm... play some practice matches against much easier to beat AIs to get the general ideas down?

what is your playstyle?

maybe try a more supportive role first, capping flags, killing creeps to level. focus on the general idea of the game a bit more. new players make the mistake that this game is all about killing the other demigods. there is no rush. if an oppurtunity comes. take it. but with caution!

what solace means btw, is you have to understand how everything works a bit. what capping flag does for you, which items work best, what every skill does, and how good they synergize, all these things can be learned in single player to an extent.

when you are ready, go play outside with the kids (online) and try out those things that worked for you in the singleplayer, but don't get greedy, little steps at a time

and ofcourse the number one tip of demigod

DON'T DIE

Here are some general hints (these are no joke despite sounding either obvious or simple)

1. Don't Die... EVER: If you are dead, you are not fighting, gaining expo, the other team can push and they got money for killing you

2. Don't go for kills, play it safe: Untill you have a really good idea of the game, going for kills will just get you killed, stay alive and harass the enemies, only kill if it is a sure kill. The point of matches (in general) is not to kill the enemy demigods, it is to kill their citadel or control flags, or defend forts, killing is just a way of keeping your enemy away for a while and getting some money, don't focus on it.

3. Buy HP/Armor Items: I cannot stress how good these are, especailly for weaker Demigods

4. Stay In the Fight, but Don't Take Damage: Just by being near the enemy creeps dieing, you gain exp, thats good =)

5. Ramp Your Items: Don't Save the the UBER ITEM off the bat, buy cheaper items and you can always sell them for better ones.

6. Teamwork: 2v1 makes odds great for you

7. Know the Format: Some formats only require you to control flags or defend fortresses, don't go off doing unimportant things

Lastly, I would recommend trying the game against AI's untill you are decent if you don't wana get stomped. I played a tournament on normal, hard, and nightmare plus around 10 lan games vs computers (and a ton of just skirmishes) before I even stepped into multiplayer and I STILL got stomped when I started. Just live and learn my friend.

Thanks guys, yeah, I meant to say that I play with my brother over LAN alot, we play 2v2 computers and we can crush normal comps easily. Setting their difficulty to hard is another story. It just seems like a completely different ballgame when playing online vs other people.

I think one of my biggest problems is figuring out what items work well together and what ones are best suited for each Demigod. Also, figuring out what to spend my cash on and what would be a waste, I seem to spend alot on potions...

And yeah, thanks muusbolla, I've got your TB guide saved as favorites already :) Helpful stuff!

The number one bit of advice that has helped people I've gotten into the game get better:

Don't try to kill Demigods. If you can, GREAT! But try to push them back, not kill them. Save mana, manage health so that you can stay out longer.

And remember, Demigod-lusting after a kill will get you killed a majority of the time.
