How to compensate for leavers

Hey guys,

I know there have been a bunch of threads regarding this issue but i have come up with an idea that, to me anyways, feel quite solid. Ill just post it and let you guys tell me what you think in a constructive manner.

The Demigod of the player who left will become controllable by the leavers teammates and they will be able to control him instead of the AI. Also, the gold that the player had before leaving will be split amongst the remaining teammates. To improve on this, maybe there could be a system in place that gives the Demigod to the player who has played with that demigod the most out of all the players, this way noobs wouldnt be controlling it, and there wouldnt be any arguments over who gets to control him. Also, the gold that the Demigod gets from killing players will be split amongst the team, this way the player controlling him wouldnt be able to stack up on gold faster than other players.

What do you guys think?

I'm sorry. It's just not going to work as well as it does in War3. Think of all the changes that would need to be done to the UI to be able to control more than one DG.

Not a bad idea, but Big abbott is right that there is going to be a huge overhaul in UI to get it working. The money thing is not a bad idea. I think it'd work out ok if that improved AI is implemented, and all gold he gets is split with the remaining players. But then, how would the AI gear up? If he doesn't he'll probably end up feeding.. even if he played perfectly. Lots of things to consider. Probably better to just focus on giving people less reasons to leave in the first place (RL reasons aside).

I'd just try to have a system that could judge the players performance in the game and have an AI that would match that

Not directly commenting on the OP's idea, but...

One thing I think would be a good idea after a few games under my belt - favor points for actually sticking around until the end of the match.  Helps deter rage quits and gives somebody something just for not being a jerk and sticking around even though they are losing.

I played a match the other day, two of the three opponents rage quit, the last guy stayed and fought well, delaying us and making it hard to put his AI team away.  Looking at the game stats today, he got the least favor points on his team.  :(

A "Too the Death" award should be given to the losing team that stays the entire game.  This can give some favor to losers and help noobs level the playing field a little.  Right now its a slippery slope, where good players get more favor, so they get better gear, and get even stronger to start the next match, where noobs get crap for losing and only more discouraged.

Long term, its better for the multiplayer if all players had access to all gear.
