How do I change my ingame name and keep my current stats?

Just change your Impulse name via the My Account link at the top of the forums. It should carry over to the game within 24 hours.

Remember this is also a change to your Impulse log-in username.  After updating it, remember to hit the Impulse Orb and put in your new log-in there.
