Add some strategy to this game

 

hi there,

i was a DOTA lover, after some DG matchs (may be 20 right now), i'm quite disapointed by this game, not sure i will invest time on it with this current form : too much DG focus, not enought strategy&fun

 there are some very good points, and this game is still promising, i feel a good potential. i will not write all my feelings & comments ... just idea for discution :


1° --> allow unit choice (melee/caster/priest/angel/cata/giant) by portal

which mean, a DG has to go to a portal, then he can select which kind of units will appear. it can be done 2 ways :

-option A : upgrade units has to be done portal by portal : DG go to the portal, then buy priest//giant (these new units will appear only at this portal, other portal will not benefit from this upgrade)

-option B : uprade units stay central, but on each portal we have access to a menu with allocation points which allow us to specify which units we want (by default, it is a standard mix like in the 1.0 version)

 

impact :

1° this way, you have to be vigilant about where from the ennemy is pushing

if ennemy invest on the right side, you may rather push on the left to avoid them (if you're a little late) or you may simply counter (if you're ahead)  or by upgrading or by sending your DG

2° it allows us to make more efficient push according to our DG

example :

Erebus with already many personal cac units may prefer more heal&ranged

sedna may select less priest and more offensive melé

a general with top level4 archer may select more melé&heal

etc etc

 

 

2° --> allow us to have more defense option

-it may be a unique repair option or tower shield, with a long global CD

if the enemy successfuly attacked your right side, you buy repair (or shield) to give you more time to attack on the other side.

or you can fake an attack on right, let the ennemy put their ressource on this side, then you mass atack the other side (you make your opponents waste ressource on useless defence)

 

 

more strategy make DG imbalance less important

it give also more decisions to make (than just dreaming our next personnal item upgrade..)

Being as this game isn't designed to replicate the 'Whack-a-mole' style gameplay that DotA used, I can only disagree with your idea about selecting which units each portal spawned. Ignoring the fact that proper team co-ordination would be needed to prevent people from switching portals, as everyone loves to pretend that they know best, the concept would remove quite a few of the creeps from the battlefield and would lower the leveling and gold stream speeds from their current states, not to mention requiring the towers be re-balanced as they'd have to be weaker as they'd only be dealing with a single creep wave as opposed to the mixed wave we have now.

Strategy is not derived from poorly implemented gameplay mechanics or creating the above mentioned 'Whack-a-mole' style gameplay. This is DotA's minute-to-minute gameplay experience, not Demigod's. Demigod is a game about precise movements with your team; knowing when to push a side together or when to fan out and farm the creeps to maximise each Demigod's XP and Gold in-take, knowing what to buy and when and how best to use it - such as when to lock a flag, when to deviate from the set build or strategy you had in mind upon loading the map and how to identify your enemies weak points and apply preasure to them are what make up Demigod's strategy. Demigod is more about out smarting your opponents than killing your own troops faster than the enemy to prevent them from acquiring gold and XP.

i was a regular dota player(puts QoT shield up, ready for TB fireball), and unfortunately the things u listed above apply in every way to dota(except flag locking). it is unfortunate that most of this community has never played dota and turns an ignorant eye towards it, assuming it was a bad game and that it shouldnt be affiliated with demigod, when the game concepts are so very similar. be aware i am not defending dota at all, why do you think i left that game for this one? :) to the OP, i disagree with both your ideas, for your first idea, i think it would be to useful for a map like brothers, then do useless for a map like crucible. for your second idea, i think more defensive options on maps which have "bottlenecking" e.g. exile and crucible, would give too much advantage to the team defending, creating a never ending game. edit:cant format my post :(

DG is much better than DotA. I palyed DotA before, but now I have DG and i never wanna play DotA again, because it looks so shitty and plays so gay compared to Demigod. Demigods design is just much better.

Zehon, i dont understand you, your description of DG essence is the same as in DOTA (except flag lock i concede)

the difference? it is just.. well :

-better graphic xD

-much more complex tree talents

I haven't read all this forum, something i'm sure has been a lot discut

 

DOTA was fine because i played it just for fun, some relax between ranked match

DG...well... i was hopping quite much more... especially when it comes from people who contribuate to Supreme Commander and SINS
