Demigod Strategies FAQ (newbies, please read before posting)

So much of the same things get asked to death, so I thought it would be a good idea to start a FAQ. Please post things that you think should get added to the list, and I will add them. (Sticky please?)

Is tower damage channeled from the rear towers to the forward ones?

Nope. Having towers link when firing is just a cool visual effect. Also, it does not have an effect on Rook towers.

Do Citadel tower upgrades affect the Rook's towers?

Nope. They just affect the towers that come with the map.

Is it better to stack health or stack weapon damage items?

In general, it is better to stack health items.

X demigod is overpowered

There may be a few things that need balancing for a few demigods, but in general, your complaint is probably not valid. When newbies say that a demigod is OP, they usually don't know the counter.

Question: What Starting Items Should I Take?

Answer:

It depends on your demigod and strategy, but certain choices are hard to go wrong with. The following are all pretty good choices for almost every situation:

Package 1

Banded Armor

Scaled Helm

Package 2

Banded Armor

Teleport Scroll

Combat Health Potion

Package 3 (Generals Only)

Summon Priest Idol rank 1 (Monks)

Question: WTFHAX! How did he do that? Must be cheating!

Answer:

No. He's not. You can't cheat in Demigod without causing a de-sync, so unless your game got desynced its all legal. He's probably just using a favor item or something you don't know about. Maybe he capped a flag that gave him some bonus you didn't account for. Maybe he used some consumables you didn't know about.

go to www.Demigoddb.com and read up on what's in the game so you know what to expect

Question: When Should I Get Priests Upgrade for my Creep Waves?

Answer:

War Rank 8. Buy them at the same time as Angels and Catapults. this provides a very strong endgame push that is hard for opponents to deal with because it comes on suddenly.

Buying Priests before this time can backfire because they offer increased gold and experience for your opponents to farm.

Everyone, please add more, and I will edit them in. :) Credit to PhoenixBomb and transitive for the questions so far!

Q: What citadel upgrades are worth it?

A; In general, the first rank of nearly every upgrade, with the exception of death penalty, is worth it. You want to prioritize having tower health 1 (lets towers regenerate), tower strength 1 (gives towers splash damage), and currency 1 (not necessarily in this order, you have to feel out how the match is going). You want these as soon as you can, but don't completely forgo upgrading your own gear for these...try to strike a balance and communicate with your teammates.

Creeps are a different thing entirely. One of the biggest mistakes a team can make is buying priests too early, especially when said team is already winning. The xp they give helps the other team more than the damage or healing they do; you're likely to get surpassed in levels by the entire team. Angels, while kind of useful for scouting/interrupting HoL's, should also be avoided because 1) you need priests to get to them and 2) they're expensive. Catas and Giants are a different thing entirely. Both are useful for pushing, and Giants typically ends the game in the favor of whoever buys them first. Therefore, your basic strategy with buying creeps is to avoid buying ANY of them until at least war rank 8, at which point you buy all the way up to Catas. I personally prefer to try making it to rank 10 and dumping about 16k right up to giants, but that's just me.

note: credit due to PhoenixBomb who said exactly this in his post earlier in the thread. i've merely reposted it in a stripped down easier to read format.

Question: Should I Lock This Flag?

answer:

YES!!!! if you don't TheGuildfordStrangler will come to your house at night and drink all your beer and pee in your sink and he won't even apologize.

seriously, learn to use Flag Locks. its a consumable item that costs 250 gold at the item store. prevents a flag you control from being capped for 45 seconds. some flags are more important to cap than others but proper use of Flag Locks is one of the main things that distinguishes a good team from a bad team.

Trans, probably should add a totem of revelation to your monk idol package. Very nice little starting item, and fits in well with your 150 remaining gold.

Question: How does he have so many hit points?

answer: There are a lot of items you can buy in the shop, for less than 2000 gold each that can substantially increase your total HP, especially when combined. Banded armor, unbreakable boots, nimoth's chestplate, and Hauberk of Life. Blood of the Fallen is also a popular item that grants 800 hit points, raising your starting hp by more than half.

Why is the minimap so important?

On the mini map you see where your allies are. You also see when the enemy tries to push into your base, especially on the sides (Cataract). You always want to have Portal Scrolls in the late game to intercept enemy players if necessary. Often they run before you even arrive and you can cancel the teleportation by issuing a move command.

Why do I die all the time?

You should avoid any situation where you are going to lose as early as possible, this may include 1on1 versus certain DGs that are a strong counter to yourself, and most importantly any 2vs1, 3vs1... situations! If you die you will grant the enemy team gold and xp. They can buy better equipment and citadell upgrades with the gold and they level up. This is very bad!! You want to avoid death at any cost. Try to get more health if you are a squishy DemiGod (Regulus, Torchbearer). Low price helath items are very cost effective. Use potions! They become quite afforable around mid game. They can save your life! Remember, the bigger ones have a longer cast time! Take that into considaration!

ntropy, also important to minimap is that your allies can 'ping' it by pressing the p key, which alerts you to things they want you look at (Fleeing demigods you may be able to kill, people grabbing portal flags, dangerous areas with multiple Enemies, etc).
