stupid arrogant torians...how can i get close relations?

i was allied to the altarians but not the torians who are both good, and allied to each other. i made war on this minor power to help the torians and killed them. i made war on the drengin to help the torians and killed them. after the wars were over i gave a huge chunk of my fleet and the conquered drengin planets to the torians. they asked me twice for 1000 and 700 bc transfers to help pay for the peacekeeping of the galaxy, which i did. tbhey get +30% of their income from me. and it still says i only got friendly relations with them!

the worst part is the new message they tell me: did you enjoy our gift to you? the red bouncing ball. we thought you would like to bounce the red ball. (another simpsons reference for those keeping count)

i have sector influence control of all but 4 torian sectors on a 5x5 map. i wanted a diplo victory because i assumed it would be faster then cultrually dominating the damn torians but i think i will just bury them in crappy terran fast food and bad pop songs.

by the way, i also saw the stupidest bug in the history of mankind:

at 4:00am during daylight savings time, a warning pops up from win98 saying that the system clock is changing due to daylight savings time. this caused a crash to desktop, and much annoyance.

Keep on gifting em stuff. It took me my entire library of techs (1st in tech here), and then tech gifts for a year or two before I could secure an alliance with em. They're greedy bastards, and won't ally with you easily even if your alignment is close to Chaotic Good.

Trade, give them money when they're short on cash, give them ships (I usually give out the anomaly freebies once the mid-game arrives), and in general, treat them well. If they get into a war, help them out *seriously*, and don't charge for it. :)
