Tower Rook Path concentration

Loving playing Rook. Not particularly good with him at the moment so any tips gratefully recieved but he suits my play style as a turtler.

One question. I usually concentrate on one Path, securing it, feading off creeps, slowly pushing towards enemy tower, eating that, pushing on etc. It strikes me that this may not be the most effective way to play. A few days back I played a game on cataract where I hung back and maintained a couple of towers on each path rather than pushing one.

It worked quite nicely, I was feeding from multiple paths, and mainly supporting the other two allies rather than making headway myself. I also didn't die half as often mainly because the enemy didn' know where I was. By the time we reached the half way mark our advantage from controling flags meant allies could concentrate on taking down towers etc.

My question is, on balance as Rook, which style do you prefer and when facing a rook which style gives you the most problems ?

Multiple paths/lane pushing would not be my idea of good Rookplay, but it may work=). However, a good rook will dump some towers on the adjacent lane at the tower. This is massively anoying and can help your teammate push the enemy from the flag.

Also, remeber teleports, a common misconception is that Rook is slow but very tough,to the contrary while Rook is 10 percent slower than other DG's this isnt that much of a problem if it didnt make him so much more suspecible to ganks. A rook may have 7k hp but it wont help when youre focued fired by 3 players and you cant run away. His towers will protect him from this, but you'll still have to be carefull against healers or 3 players at the same time, fro these situation: Telescrolls.

What I've been doing recently is getting every speed item possible.  Swift Anklet+Boots of Speed+Wand of speed+Journey Man Treads.   It seems to have worked fairly well and makes chasing very easy.  Especially if you can get in front of them while they run away from a battle and lan a hammer on em :D

I tend to play the one lane rook, and make it one of the outlying lanes, far from the center. I don't tend to farm that much though, a couple of towers back in the lane and I go forwards to start eating towers. There are advantages to a mobile rook (I use amulet all the time, nothing funnier than just suddenly appearing right in front of the enemy, putting up a tower, and having them turn away because they don't have enough power to push through you, the regular tower, and your little tower) so you can really play him either way.

I really don't think spending around 8k (Can't remember the exact price of journeyman's) and a favor item just to make Rook really fast is the best idea.... especially considering the fact that I don't even assume I'll have 8k by level 10 or so (which is generally when you should have most of your gear besides the optional stuff.)

I mean, sure, in the end you've got a nice 40% constant speed boost (which brings you up to 7.66 speed) with a chance of going up to 115% faster (way above any other DG), but you won't be able to kill anybody.... by the time you get your speed gear, your tower farm just won't be a big enough threat to hurt enemy DGs more than you can be hurt.
