Item Help

Hello, I bought this game last week and am completely and pathetically addicted to it. I've tried out all the demigods and have a general Idea of how to play and how not to, but one thing stumbles me in this strangely deep game....there are sooo many items I just never know how to smartly invest them at the start...and middle of the game. At the end of course It's easy for me because there is only 1 ultimate item to pick from. duh. But what I really would like to know is, what is the best investment for armor in mid and early game? Should I buy combat potions or save up my money so I can upgrade my armor? What armor should I upgrade to? and god there is even citidel upgrades to be had. It's overwhelming how many things I can purchase and waste my gold on. I would like to know what the best items to waste my money on should be in early and mid game...does it matter what items I get depending on whether I'm assasin dg or general? help me! thanks

First off, endgame items are much, much harder than early game items. For example, for the same amount of money you can get a Bulwark of Ages or a Mageslayer and an Orb of defiance (and having 16k to burn is ABSURDLY rare unless the game is evenly matched), and both of those are totally different and valid (though orb of defiance probably isn't the best investment, you get my point).

Early game, it's generally Scaled armor+Scalemail/potion/scaled helm, or the lowest level of priest minions. Midgame, you want to get your one mana helm and stack health and maybe gloves with proc effects (and a wand of speed). But it all depends on the build.
