Gratuitous Space Battles

Has anyone seen this game yet?  Pretty amazing fights.  This is what I wish Sins had more of in terms of capship battles.  I especially liked the one clip showing off the space hulks when a capship blows.  I don’t think this game has a lot of go out and conquer like sins does which hinders the game for me.  But it does look kewl.

From the Gratuitous Space Battles home page, "simulation game that does away with all the base building and delays and gets straight to the meat and potatoes of science-fiction games : The big space battles fought by huge spaceships with tons of laser beams and things going 'zap!', 'ka-boom!' and 'ka-pow!'. In GSB you put your ships together from modular components, arrange them into fleets, give your ships orders of engagement and then hope they emerge victorious from battle (or at least blow to bits in aesthetically pleasing ways)."

At once I feel warm and fuzzy about this game. It sounds like it is designed for people who are lazy, or who hate to put very much time into a gaming experience. Yet who want a feeling of accomplishment from the hootenanies of explosive violence that quickly develop from their clever design and planning.

This one bears watching.

Wilebill, just because it doesn't involve base building, does not mean it is for people who are lazy, or hate to put time in a video game experience.

Its meant to be fun and entertaining.

It does look interesting.  With autonomous ships lousy AI could really hurt the game, and I also wonder about replayability.  But definitely worth watching.

Would have loved it if SD had done something like this in a GC2 expansion.

I hate to say it but it does not look that good, its not really a space battle. As i gather from the video it is entirely a 2 dimensional battlefield with the units just going at it, it might as well have an ocean wallpaper and world war 2 ships.

I've actually been following this game for a while. I'm really interested in it...after "Battleships Forever", I've been looking for a good 2D space combat game. This one looks right up my alley.
