Loads of questions.

So, I'm pretty new to the game.  I just got it a few days ago because i really felt like some RTS action.  So far the game is pretty fun.  It took a little while to get the hang of it but in a few hours I had a firm grasp of what I was doing.  I just have a few questions:

1.  The Strike Craft, one is a bomber and the other is a fighter.  My understanding is that the bomber is used to attack larger ships and the fighter is used to fight other Strike Craft.  Can bombers defend themselves from fighters and can fighter attack non-Strike Craft?

2.  Do the trade centers automatically generate credits once built?  Do I need more than one?  I usually put one in every gravwell I have.  Is that a good tactic?  As an Advent I have the technology to suspend trade to help mine metal/crystal, does that take that specific Trade Center out of the trade circuit or just lower it?

3.  Why does the Advent Mothership turn to it's side to attack...it looks awkward?  Some ships turn and some don’t.  Is there an advantage to that?  What about turning radiuses?  Some ships are much better than others.

4.  When you hover over a ship you get a 'stat-window' and in there you see how much the weapons hit for.  With Caps they have 2 or 3 different types of attack with the numbers indicating how much they attack for.  Are those numbers a "damage per second" number or do they mean how much each individual attack hits for?

Holy crap, there isn't a spellchecker and I can't copy/paste to a word processor.  Sorry about the untold spelling and grammar errors.

5. Advent Motherships have and ability called Resurrection, how does that work?  Will it just 'remember' a ship that was destroyed and transfer those levels to a newer Cap?

6.  It's my understanding that here isn't a campaign mode but there are missions.  How do you get missions?  Where do you go to get them and how do you get the details on how to complete them?

1. Yes, with the patch, bombers are good against capships, large vessels and buildings. Fighters are good against small ships and other strike craft.

2. They automatically generate money as long as you have atleast one more in another gravity well. TEC rely on that alot, so i suggest you fill all free slots with trade centers in the early game.

3. Just a graphic, broadside attack maybe?

4. Damage per second, but it really does not matter as long as you dont do hardcore math.

1.  bombers cannot defend themselves.  use flak.  fighters are good at taking down light frigs and heavy cruisers

2. yes you need more than one.  for tec, it's a very good tactic.  you generally need to make a long chain of them to gererate loads and loads of credits.  advent do have the technology.  it must be unlocked.

3. if i'm not mistaken, all cap ships do that because their mains weapons are on their sides.

4.  the unit itself has how much damage it does per shot.  damage is calculated in dps (damage per second)

your welcome,

have a nice day

3) the mothership, along with many other capital ships, is a side-shooter.  Its weapons are on its sides, so it needs to turn to get a clear shot.  Other capital ships, like the Marza, are forward shooters, while others like the Kol have guns on multiple sides.

I might be wrong, but every time one of your ships is destroyed it adds xp to the mother ship towards upping it's level. I'm not sure how it's calculated and I might be totally off with my answer.

1) Fighters kill the following well - bombers, fighters, LRM (Javalis, Illums or Asailants).

Bombers kill HC, caps and SB well

2) Yes - you get more creds per second with a longer chain. Having a second or third etc... doubles/triples etc... the amount you get from that grav well

3) Side mounted weapons

1. Your pretty much right, except fighters are also good against seige frigates, scouts, basically just most small frigates. I am pretty sure bombers cannot attack fighters.

2. Trade centers make trade ships, which make money by travelling to other trade stations. You want to make an unbroken chain of trade centers. You can see the chain(s) by holding your mouse of the credit resource bar. But you shouldn't just put one in every grav well, you want to make long chains of them. The chain only goes as long as it doesn't come full circle back to another world that already has a trade station. Sorry, i'm not great at explaining this.

3. Because its main weapons are on its side.

4. Damage per second.

in order for the mothership lv 6 ability to work, the cap ship that dies must be in the same grav well.  say it was lv 4.  when it dies, it takes that lv 4, and adds it to the level of another cap ship.  so another cap ship you own gains 4 levels.

4. The only exception is planet bombing weapons, which simply do that much damage a salvo is fired (possibly less with damage-reducing technologies researched by your enemy).

5. I've never seen Resurrection in action, but my understanding is if a higher leveled capital is destroyed with the Mothership present, and you construct another capital ship (whether it has to be the same type or not I'm not sure), the Mothership will immediately raise the new capital ship's level to that of the destroyed one.

Yep, it just keep track of the highest level capital ship you lost and when you activate the ability on another capital, it raises it up to that level.

In other words, get a level 10 cap, scuttle it, and you just got a bunch of level 10 caps...  This especially helpful for getting Halcyons or Radiances as they become immensely powerful at higher levels.  (I love Cleansing Brilliance.)

doesn't work. you can't do the level 10 trick anymore. but it's still superpowerful

If you play a game with the AI, you can choose settings that will give you missions.

Unlock teams in the beginning. What will happen is the computer will offer you missions. If you satisfy this mission, the computer will "up" it's friendlyness towards you. If you do not, it will downgrade it. The higher the friendship, the better the alliance.

It will start at 0 if it's an enemy, at 100 if it's a friendly. You can potentially have allies turn on you and enemies become friends.

Can get a little hairy with 6+ players, but it's fun nonetheless.

I don't believe that is the case.  It remembers the level from anywhere.  And I didn't know there was a time limit for its use?

And yeah, the missions are part of the 'diplomacy' of Unlocked Teams.  If you complete enough missions to get 50% or more, it will give you a cease fire (if you ask for it).  Also, in the mean time, don't kill any of his stuff, coz that lowers your percentage.

Thanks.  All of you guys have been very helpful.

I'll give the run down of what my understanding of the Mothership's lvl 6 is. When a capital ship dies, it's spirit crew stays int he grav well. I guess on high graphics you can see them buzzing about. Anyway, if the mothership enters that grav well, it will "pick up" that experience.

What i've never quite understood is if the ability will pick it up with one shot of the ability, and then give with the second BECAUSE as long as the mothership has been in that grav well where the spirits were lost, the experience can be given to any cap. It doesn't go by levels. It goes by experience. It gives the experience back. That's what's great.

My point is what turns a level 1 into a level 4 cap won't turn a level 2 into a level 5. It goes by whatever the amt. of exp. the ship had and ADDS that to whatever capital ship is nearby....i think.

The game doesn't have a campaign and there really aren't any missions.  Just pick a map and play.  When you feel comfortable with the game and can easily defeat the AI, then it will be time to consider online multiplayer, which you'll find under the Ironclad Online button.  You can also log onto ICO and play humans v. AI games (comp stomps), which is a nice way to ease into the game and to be able to chat with other players and to learn from them.

Maybe the "missions" you are referring to are the little tasks the AI can send you on when the teams aren't locked.  Look in the diplomacy menu for those.  You can complete those (they generally tell you to either give some sort of resource or kill ships/military structures/civillian structures of a certain opponent) to increase your happiness percentage toward that AI player.  When your percentage gets around 50%, they will generally accept a cease fire, and when it gets near 100%, they will generally sign a peace treaty and the shared vision(s).

I noted this above, and bombers CAN attack fighters. They just prefer frigates, cruisers, capitals, structures, and starbases to enemy strikecraft. The inverse is true for fighters. Fighters like to attack other SC over enemy frigates.
