Helping the Beginners

Hello everybody. Im a beginner at this and i want some help on this game.

I need help on making a fleet and mannufacturing, which im not very good at. But even though i have only played for two days i have already been able to keep my economy 3x that of others (even in the depressions). The questions i have is that why cant i make a fleet as fast as others even though i have the resources and the economy backing me up and including 20.8 billion people. Is it becasue my manufacturing is lower than everyones (how do i get it up). So thanx for helping the slow one ;p

You could also try setting your spending ratio to all military. That will get you ships very fast.

Yup, my usual start for a large map, which works against Normal or bright AI so far is

Set spending to 100% (Ignore the loss for now.
Set Military to 80
Set Social to 0
Set Research to 20

You then pump out a colony ship every 3 turns.

Once you think you have all the planets, switch to constructors to grab the resources, by the time you have a few of them, you should be almost out of money, so equalize your spending, move military down to 40, social to 30 and research to 30.

I normally get al the planets near me, and all the resources using this, once i have the resorces, i set all planets to make a banking center, and then soil enhancer.

No probs, works well for me. However not sure how it works against Bright and intelligent AI's yet.
