Ellestar

Mind if I set up a June GOTM? I know you have the masochist challenge going, but the rest of us peons can't complete at that level. :)

I don't think Ellestar owns exclusive rights to the GOTM, Michael. :)

Do go ahead, more GOTMs could only be good for the community. Especially if they are catering to different categories of players.

By the way i think that name "Game of The Month" is a bad idea. Why we can't have more than 1 game and why a month? That's why i called masochistic challenge another way.

I thought about starting next game, but i don't have a good idea what kind of competition to start (i wanted something interesting).

Of course i'll be happy if you start next competition.

How about a 1-sector challenge? (cannot colonize or invade a planet outside of your starting sector) What's the largest map size that makes this possible? Would it be feasible on intelligent/gigantic? How about normal/gigantic?

1-sector is too easy if ya ask me. We need something that people might fail at a couple times. But if it were gigantic, that might work, but only Large or bigger. I would rather see a Gigantic, on Maso, only Military conquest. Without using any Cultural short cuts by taking planets. Granted you might eventually get a couple without tryng but other then that, military conquest. I hate hearing about all these short cuts to winning. Does no one else like to just beat the living shit out of a Civilization? And perhaps struggling for your life untill the time you can turn the tables and stick it to em?

Forget about Gigantic/Military only. I still can't finish my game (on abudant) - i started it 4 May. Most important thing is that i don't really want to finish it.

Also, gigantic is bad for competition - too much time and you need a good comp. And most important - competition must be fun, IMHO noone wants to play a "no brain - no pain" type of competition on gigantic.

I think that Large is the largest map size that can be at the competition.

I see your point of view, and I do suppose your right. And fun is the most important part, it just depends on the persons idea of fun I suppose. When I play, I'm looking for a long drawn out fight. Deep in the trenches WW1 style. Doesn't really matter weather I win or lose. Or how long it takes. That is my idea of fun. :)

I enjoy playing lots of small games. First, some of the randomness makes the games very different (e.g. in
a gigantic game, you've got a good chance of getting resources, but in a small, you could have only one military resource on the whole map - and you're enemy's parked a base right on top. An even better reason is my comp's under minimum specs :)

As for custom challenges, it just depends on how masochistic you are:

Protege Conquest - choose one minor race, give them all the help you can, and get them to conquer the universe without attacking anyone yourself.

Bring It On - you're evil, and you set all the aliens
to pure good. You have to go to war with them as soon
as you see them. With any luck, they'll ally against you and make things interesting.

Just pulled those out of my arse, but you get the idea.
Personally, I think the point of custom games is to force yourself to try something new. I don't care about the difficulty level, whatever works for you - though doing stunts like that on maso obviously earns you lots of bragging rights - new medals would be nice too...

Hey Michael tell us when you post the game. Maso on 1.40 I don't even want to deal with. Thanks!

LOL, that would be cool :HOT: ... However wasn't it dikdirk who came up with the website and stuff?

I would like to play a GOTM! So please post it if you made one!! I looked at the website (i don't know address, but was something with "really rules"), and if you make one of these intro's like they did for the first one that would be really cool.

By the way, if anyone interesting in supporting the site (html and other stuff), post here.

I'm busier than I expected... hopefully will have something up by the end of the week.

If anyone has any ideas for scoring methods, let's hear 'em. The way May was scored worked out okay, but I'm pretty sure if we put our heads together we can figure out something better.

I'm thinking "Challenging" difficulty, probably nothing too exotic, maybe just some unusual social picks at the beginning.

Suggestions are most welcome.
