Proxies are acting up again

Proxies are acting up again

A few weeks or maybe a month or two ago now proxied connections were sporadically giving extremly high pings which slowed down games if you didn't rejoin and get a different proxy. Then, without any fanfare, they just started working again after a week or so.

The same thing is happening again for me and a handful of people I've talked to in game.

So basically the idea is I'll enter a game, have several proxied connectins, and the majority will be at a reasonable, sub 300 ping. However there's almost always one that's 700+ and to fix it I have to rejoin the game. The problem is that I have to reshuffle all my proxies so previously good connections can end up at 700+, which makes rejoining to fix the issue impractical in larger games. These high pings are not just a display issue, they accurately reflect the lag I then see in game.

Is anyone else having these issues and is there a fix/workaround?

Please please get this fixed.

Demigod is one of the best games to ever come out, but its being brutalized by the poor connection issues.  :(

If you have problems with acquiring too many proxies there maybe issues with your router, particularly if its old or really cheap.  I switched out mine and do not proxy to other players as much.

Someone said it's because of the demo

I don't know about that. Correlation does not mean causation. Stardock is aware of the situation so let's just hope it's fixed soon. In the mean time, I've had to leave/rejoin a couple games to avoid the proxy woes.

Sadly I have the opposite problem. I don't troubleshoot networks for a living, but my brother is and consequently we have a fancy schmancy Juniper instead of a normal router. I'm sure it could be configured so that I don't have to rely on proxies enough, but he's the one who has to do it and downgrading isn't really an option for me since he's so attached to it.

I need to trick him into playing DG more so it becomes a more pressing issue for him. :/

same probleme here ! in 3 of 5 games i have proxies about 750 - 800 ms !

fix it :) fast pls :D

Still annoying:

I always had to be proxied to a lot of connections, takes a bit longer to get the cons. up, but

once they are established, everything allways worked fine.

At the moment it is so hard for me to get a game up, lots of proxies with 700+,

and even if i get low proxies <100, i get just kicked for ppl. dont want to play with proxied ppl.

Problem seems to be my router, as ports are open and forwarded. But cant really change him, for

I also need him for digital TV.

SO PLSPLSPLSPLSPLS fix it, to the way it was a week ago

I am disappointed to come back to give the game a go since it's been a while since I played and now the proxies don't even work properly! They had just about solved the connectivity problems but now they themselves are a major problem source - one that is basically being ignored, despite the fact that it basically prevents many people from playing.

It is not being ignored. As noted on the previous page, the hotfix (which should be this week) is needed to address it. There's not really anything that can be done in the interim.

Definately disappointing to see this great game take a step backwards.  Let's hope the new hotfix is 2 steps forward.

I don't understand how suddenly a client side fix is needed for this, since this problem didn't occur after a Demigod patch?

It's been around for a while (the fix was actually already slated for the hotfix prior to last week), just hasn't been a significant issue up until now.

At least on WoW hotfixes were generally server side, not client side. I assume it's the same here since there was some kind of hotfix last week which didn't include this.

same issue here

tcp/udp 6000-6200 are forwarded

im in eu

other eu players get ping 800 with me

used to be 100-150 ping in eu

I posted this elsewhere, but the last word is that hotfix is due out today (8/6/09)... at least that's what they are shooting for.

So - me=hopes that the hotfix solves that and some other problems!

Haven't tested it extensively, but I joined a few games and left once I got connected and I was getting 120'ish pings off of proxies, so it looks like the hotfix worked.

Played a bit more and the patch seems to have done the trick, so kudos to SD/GPG on this one.
