CTD on First Game Played

I have owned the game for a week now but have just found the time to play my first game. I went with a tiny galaxy in order to save time. At any rate, after about an hour of playing and everything looking rather good the game crashed to desktop. I am running the latest patched version. Has anybody else had this problem recently? Thanks.

Just finished my second game, ever, and didn't have any problems with CTDs. I got my butt kicked but that is an entirely different story.

I did experience some sound problems along the way in regards to certain cutscenes. It seemed like the sound was skipping during anomaly scenes as well as when other races contacted me to trade technology. I am running Sound Blaster Live Gamer with the current drivers and with Direct X 9.0a installed. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
