Pantheon Favor Items

I think people might be more encouraged to get a higher position on the Pantheon ladder. Or atleast it would be more fun if people would try more.

In for example World of Warcraft you can get special items by playing a lot of PvP. Maybe Demigod could have a similar system. For example, if you get into the top 100 in pantheon or skirmish you could get access to new, special favour items. (These new items should just be different and new, not more powerful than the rest.)

What do you think?

Would be sweeeeeeeet. I'd love to have some new items.

As long as they are not too fancy I don't see why not. It would encourage more tournament play at least.

I'd like to see the dg's have a aura kind of similar to the auras in diablo 2 either just at your feet or your character glowing (of course we'd need it toggle-able for those of us with slow computers),,

Something similar was implemented in Killzone, with awards being given to the top 5, 10, 15% of players for the week, which would appear by their names. I think it would be a cool asthetic thing, but not a high priority in the last right now. Stats have to be fixed first of all.

So maybe a neat feature to have in December, but not tommorow.

Yes, something to show that you have a good rank or something. To award those players.

Waste of time. Spend time balancing new stuff, for the top 5% of the game, is almost by definition a waste of resources.

Also, it is almost impossible to make more favor items availible without ultimately making the players stronger in combat.  If any of the new favor items are worth using, the other 95% of the player base will hate them.  If none are worth using, then what was the point?

I was actually talking about an aestetic bonus, that would appear by a person's name in the lobby or matchmatching screen.

Off-topic, I know. And low-priority, as I said. Something that would be cool to see in a few months, but not now as it would be a waste of resources and stats are still broken as it is.

Of course it is waste of time NOW. There are, as you say, bigger issues right now. We should be able to give ideas for the next implementations.

I see your point and that might be a problem as you say. I still think those players should have some kind of "extra thingie". The items could be like for example an item that makes you summon 3 archers instead of 2 but all your summoned units will get less damage, health and all that but you will have a higher chance of getting last hit etc. Just an example, I think you could make more favour items without making them better than the last ones, just DIFFERENT. :)

Let me put it to you this way.  Suppose we are having a cooking competition, you with your ingredients, me with mine.

If I have more ingredients at my disposal, even if they do not necessarily appear to be better, I *still* have a strictly better chance to win. I just have more options for making my dish.  Demigod is the same way.  Even if a favour items seems just 'differently' balanced, there will be some cases where it is better than an existing item, and it will be used then.

Also, balancing item effects is extremely hard to do, especially with any kind of brutal precisions.  Do you realy think you could create an item exactly balanced with Blood of the Fallen? It is a significant task that you shouldn't really shrug off.

If you want to have status symbols for higher ranked DG's, implement things like seperate skins, extra visual effects/ voice lines, or some such.  Trying to add another layer of items for the elite is like wrestling a beehive away from a bear.  Even if you succeed, you shake up the nest, and have a PO'd bear.
