Metaverse: Submitting Losses

Presently there is no point in submitting losses--it makes your score go down. To encourage more people to submit their games (even losses), should the metaverse not _penalize_ you for doing so?

I submit my losses anyway (well, loss, at this point, but I think it's going to become losses shortly)... I like having a complete record of all my games. Maybe I'm just weird... I don't take the metaverse so seriously that I'll post my "good" games.

Also, submitting your losses is a good idea if you want to help Brad further develop the AI, since each game submitted, regardless of the outcome, gives him more data to work with to determine what the AI is doing right and/or wrong.

And my first post should have read "that I'll ONLY post my "good" games." Damn, we need an edit button...

Submitting all of mine was my initial plan, too. However since I'm in an empire I don't want to hurt my teammate(s) because of my analness.

hmmm. i should set up the "loser empire", where people can safely submit their lost games without screwing up other empires...

"However since I'm in an empire I don't want to hurt my teammate(s)"

You see, the solution to that is simple. I *own* an Empire, so I can do whatever I want. And if any piddling upstart GG Overlords don't like it, I can always exile them to some other lousy Empire, like GammaSquad or Arnor. ;)

Personally, for the Metaverse to have any meaning, I don't think submission should be an option. The game should ask you if you want to participate in the Metaverse. If you say yes, it should automatically submit ALL of your games (caching any that you complete when you aren't connected to the 'net for later submission). Otherwise, we have the problem we're discussing now, where people's scores aren't reflective of their actual skill, because they only submit the games that make them look good.

I just want GammaSquad to know that WHEN GoneGold surpasses them, they won't have a single good excuse. ;)

I can usually get a point or two with a loss. I lost this weekend to the I-League (from one planet to domination in twenty turns by military conquest) by surrendering to the Altarians and still got 2 mpts. I didn't upload it because I didn't want to wreck my average. I didn't think about the AI issue. Couldn't you assume that if you lost to the AI that its present strategy is sound enough for your style? You would have to better your tactics the next game for a win. I would think it's more important to learn from an AI loss than an AI victory.

The easy fix to this would be for the Metaverse to only raise your overall score by the games you add, not lower it. So people who wished to add low scoring games/losses would not be penalized, but it wouldn't make a difference to their score.

I plan on submitting all games regardless of outcome too. I want to help Brad as much as I can to improve the AI and this game.

I would propose that any loss would result in a zero or very low score. Guess it'd be the best way to get every game reported. When I say "very low score", I mean something making so that people will report it since it doesn't cost anything anyway to get a few points, but it wont affect the score globally.

I think it will be better if metaverse counting say 5 best scores. Or count in several ways and choose max result.

But more important, now metaverse forces to play on max sized galaxy to gain max score - this is not really good. Also it seems that it's much easier to gain high score on Painful than on Masochistic. And because patches continuously closing cheese tactics etc. it will be more and more hard to gain a good score.
