Take the early C&C titles for example. I've beat them so many times, the only time I ever replay them is for the story. The AI is absurdly easy, the tactics and tricks to beating the levels are so ingrained in my memory that it's more of a pain in the ass to play the game even if I just want to relive the story. So I'll use a hack to make the AI more challenging, or a trainer to just give myself no fog of war and unlimited funds with insta-build so I can just rocket through the level and get on with the story.
Let's go with a more current title, like Dungeon Siege 3. Loved 1, liked 2, won't play 3. Let's say I did play it. Fast forward 10 years from now, the game is absurdly easy because it's so linear, but I still like the story. So I download a hack that uberpowers the enemies and lets me bypass the level 30 something whatever maxing out on levels, and lets me level up faster. Meanwhile, I'm playing a brand spanking new game from someone else completely unrelated. Steam scans my games after installing this new game and sees that I've messed with Dungeon Siege 3 in an unapproved way, and now I'm locked out of my account and can't play any of my games. You know what? Fuck them. If I want to make an older title more fun, suck a fart out of my ass. Even if it's only a year old and I want to do that, don't treat me like a criminal, I'm not doing it to be malicious, I'm doing it so I can enjoy my shit more.
