GC2_Conversations.xml Dialog Priority Question

I'm running into an issue with the GC2_Conversations.xml that seems strange to me.

The priority of the dialog seems to be:

1 - specific speaker, specific listener

2 - generic speaker, generic listener

3 - specific speaker, generic listener

4 - generic speaker, specific listener

I don't understand why generic speaker / generic listener would take priority over specific speaker / generic listener but if that's what it comes down to, the amount of work needed for race specific dialog is daunting to say the least.

Am I wrong on this? Is there a work around? Is it something specific to my version of TA?

because your the generic speaker it means custom race by the way what kind of mod are you making please no star trek mods we have enough of them.

Hi again FoxThree,

I've edited all the default races but didn't touch their <DialogueTag>.  So from what you are saying there is no catch all for the main races? In other words if the Drengin make first contact with the Krynn using the default GC2_Conversations.xml, the dialog will be the generic speaker, generic listener because there is no listing for:

<Speaker Name="Drengin">1</Speaker>
<Listener Name="Krynn">14</Listener>

So I have to write dialog for every main race interaction with every other main race to keep them from using the <Speaker Name="Generic">10</Speaker> dialogs?

I'm working on a Star Control 2 mod.  There appear to be a few of those as well but none have ever been completed.  I have portraits, videos and music in so far.  I'd like to bust out this dialog and then work on ship styles.  It's just that some of the races would never ever talk like the generic dialog so I was hoping I could (at least for starters) make them talk the same way to everyone.

yup I made a master of orion mod not to long ago just never released it also I messed with conversations xml myself for the futurama mod.Its not easy to do like the omicronins are always talking about jayleno and old earth shows but have fun with your mod maybe you can post some screenshots of your mod.

Here is the race selection screen.  None of this artwork is mine btw.

So I started adding race to race entries into the conversations file... It's a small nightmare just working with a file that large. I might break down each topic into it's own file just to make debugging / troubleshooting easier.

not a bad start if you need some race logos let me know i'll make you some also use notepad II it does wonders for modding gc2.And maybe when I have the time i'll release my master of orion mod my doctor who TA mod is more important.

I found out that the morality does not ALWAYS default to 1... It seems that if your custom race is evil you have to make their dialog morality 2 otherwise it defaults to generic morality 2.  Same goes for very good races, they must be set to 0
