Which is stronger?

What ship is stronger,the dreadnought or the ranger? The ranger tech comes later than the dreadnought tech but I don't know which for sure is stronger than ther other.

The higher speed for the ranger is very nice. Plus, the ranger can get anomaly boosts.

If the attacking ship is Ranger and the defending ship is the dreadnought, than

The attacking ship is expected to win 54% of engagements, with an average of 17 hit points remaining.

If the attacking ship is Dreadnought and the defending ship is the ranger, than

The defending ship is expected to win 55% of engagements, with an average of 14 hit points remaining.

On average, it would take 2 attacking ships to destroy one defender.

The only big problem I have with the Ranger is due to its position on the tech tree, by the time I can build them, I've got a fleet of Dreads. They are not that much better than Dreads, and Avatars are just a hop, skip, and a jump from Rangers which are much better than Dreads. End result is that I find their role in the game extremely limited.

CM, I agree with you to some extent, but in a larger galaxy where all the anamolies have yet to be explored, they offer an interesting option- I see them as faster dreads with more potential to improve (due to HP bonuses from tools lying around) and thus always keep a few around- further more, they let me go scouting for anamolies deep in the Yor without fear of being destroyed...

If you get the "lucky" racial ability, you can get a ranger from a random event well before they are normally available.

Rangers are good on larger maps due to their faster
speed :)
