.Net 2.0 required, but have 3.5 sp1 installed on XP...

I have a Windows XP system, which has one of the Fenses beta on it, and I getting ready to update to the newest Fences, which I just downloaded off Download.com.

This machine has never had .Net 2.0, only a fresh install with 3.5, and I'm getting the 2.0 error message at the beginning requirements screen on install.  The 3.5 is as updated as it can get.  The 2.0 linked in the installer window wwon't install due to 3.5 already on.

Help please.

Thanks

.Net 3.5 does not include .Net 2.0 or Net 1.1 for that matter.  Install .Net 2.0 from MS.  That should solve it.

:sigh:

I know Wiki is not an authority, but I used them as they have the clearest display of what is included in the various framework downloads.

Here's a link straight off the MSDN download, which lists a few things in the 3.5 download:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/cc378097.aspx

Please note, the .Net 2.0 sp1 listed.

That being said, the link you provided it the same one in the installer readme, as well as the link which the installer was directly giving, which won't install if you have 3.x installed.

Interesting thing though.  I just tried the installer again, and it ran through without issues, and Fences loaded.

Please note, the .Net 2.0 sp1 listed.

That is a SERVICE PACK for net 2.0 called 2.1

It is not net 2.0

Its a suppliment...an update...in the same way as the Service Pack 1 for Windows XP is an 80 meg download...it is not the Operating System itself called 'XP' which at last check was considerably bigger than 80 meg....;)

Ok, Last attempt.  Here is the listing of what is included in the Frameworks, included what comes with what Frameworks revision.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb822049.aspx

Please, note the source, also, note the Framework 3.0 line, where it specifically states 2.0 is installed. 3.5 adds functionality, but still requires the 2.0

Also, read the standalone "Note:" in the "Installation Notes" section.

Ok, just forget about fences. It's not really worth all of this. Damn, mountains out of molehills, get a life...

Ok got it.  So you have .Net 2.0 installed then.  Glad to hear it's all working now.

I'm having the same issue on Windows 7.  And despite what many people said above, Frameworks 3.0, 3.5, and all service packs of them contain, in its entirety, the .Net Framework 2.0 CLR and all associated libraries.  Frameworks 3.x is just a marketting title.  It's still 2.0 in the guts, with extra features like WPF and so on.

This is a bug in the installer.  Thankfully, for me anyway, the warning was all bark and no bite.  After it tried to (and failed) to install Framework 2.0, the installer continued on to successfully update Fences.

I'm SO GLAD that I didn't have to use that piece of crap "Impulse" nightmare of an installer to install version 1.0.  It may be fine for gamer PCs where everybody is admin of their own PC, but it's a pain in the butt for us corporate admins in a secure environment whose user base is addicted to Fences!  lol.
