Better Functionality

I really quite like the simplicity of Fences, but what would make it really useful for me would be the ability to bring individual fences to the front of all the windows so i can open a program where it would then go back to background.

A setting to have an overlay so some or all fences can be above programs and widgets etc...

Nice idea!  |-)

It'd be a great feature...sort of like 7's right bar end 'show desktop' feature...or a hot button/shortcut feature.

Be excellent to show each fence on Win7 taskbar like each tab of IE8 and each listed on right-click too.

I 2nd this idea.  I very often find myself hitting show desktop to view my fences, selecting something and then re-opening the app I was on before.   Being able to bring all or some of the fence above any app with a shortcut would be great.

Grouping individual fences together, you can use a menu system to access them. You can select which fences you want to show up.

In this way you are customizing your desktop to show icons relevant to what you are currently working on.

Different groups for different projects. Less clutter.

So I don't quite have that planned out, but what I do have is... next month I'm hoping to start work on an update to ObjectDock Plus. This update could work with Fences to provide tabbed docks of your Fences for quick access :) A part of me is also considering building this ObjectDock feature in with Fences Pro, but we'll have to see. Like / don't-like?

Would that be a a flyout docklet where you could assign a specific fence to each flyout (flownout??  ;P ).

That could work for me.

Would like to see OD+ and Fences left as two separate identities as they have different purposes on your desktop and some users will only have fences running and not OD+.

But if you go that way no doubt I will be one of the first using it!

I agree. What the OP suggests really duplicates OD's functionality and blurs the Fences distinctive. What JMB1984 suggests, however, would be nice. I currently have a tabbed dock setup that duplicates many of the icons on my desktop for just such a purpose. Having that process automated, rather than having to create it manually, would be a time-saver. But leave the hotkey stuff out of Fences. That's what Winkey-D is for.
