OT: Good online strategy game?

I'd like to play some online strategy game again, and as a quick look at google shows, there are plenty of them:

I have no idea which of them are good, but maybe someone can give me advice. I'm looking for a game with:
- Fantasy or SciFi setting
- free
- turn-based
- about one turn/day or similiar speed
- I don't want to spend three days reading manuals before starting to play
- most important, it must be fun!
Any suggestion? :)

Laser Squad Nemesis :D

Squad based tactical combat from the devs of X-Com:UFO;
it's subscription based which seems a bit of a turn off at first until you realise for the time you'll probably keep at it, it's not going to cost you more than any other video game.

Ah, this looks nice but isn't exactly what I'm looking for... I'd prefer the empire-building-alliance-making stuff. :)

I want to try Laser Squad Nemesis, but i want to hear some reviews from it first. i miss the X-Com games, the format of the 2 first X-Coms (ufo, and terror from the deep) is what i like to play, just that i havent seen any games that followed that format since. (:(
