Squad key binding problems

driving me up the wall...

Alright so i've been playing Sins for a day or two and have been really enjoying it, naturally. Everything's been working as expected so far, making this all the stranger. I went to create a new squad at the start of a game as usual; a capital ship and a few frigates and whatever, so I selected the cap, selected the others, hit Ctrl+1 and expected to be done with it. No. For some reason whenever I press 1 to go to the squad, it picks one of the frigates as the leader. Nomatter what I do, what order I select them in, whether I click them one at a time, alt+click, alt+shift+click, use shift+tab to change selected unit before doing ctrl+1 again, set them as a fleet with the capital the leader, set the capital as group 1 on his own then add the others to it afterwards, nomatter what I try it always picks some other small ship to be the leader. Confused the hell out of me, especially seeing as i'd made several similar squads and fleets in a previous game without a problem, so I went back to those games to check the patch hadn't messed up squads or something, and sure enough they were fine. When I hit the right number, it selected the whole squad, with the capital fleet leader as the squad leader, just like i'd made them effortlessly ages ago. So I tried again to create a squad, even out of the very same troops, simply assigning them a different squad number, and suddenly, even though the cap is still the leader of the "fleet" and everything is the same, whenever I hit the number it insists on having some random cruiser as the active unit with the rest of the fleet (including the damn capital fleet leader) trawling behind him. I also realise that if you click the fleet "icon" above the fleet leader you can select the whole fleet that way, so I tried doing that before assigning the number, but the problem persisted and pressing the number would still select the fleet with a cruiser as the active unit. Fail.

It's annoying as hell, so I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand with it? It's 4am here so sorry if i'm not very clear. Also sorry if this is in the wrong place, just didn't exactly seem like a "technical" problem.

Thanks in advance.

It's a retarded mechanic.  The devs should have made it to where the highest ranking capital ship is always the fleet leader when selecting them like that, but for some reason it tends to pick some random pissant frigate instaad.

What you have to do is select them all with the mouse, and then hit tab until you cycle through to the fleet leader you want (most likely a capital ship) and THEN create the fleet.

Thanks for the quick reply Kharma... good to know i'm not the only one with this problem anyway. Sadly I tried what you said and it did indeed let me make my capital the fleet leader, but I wasn't having too much trouble with that in the first place... annoyingly even with the cap as fleet commander when I press the number bound to the squad it picks (as you say) some random pissant frigate as the highlighted unit, forcing me to either tab through or find my cap on the battlefield so I can actually use his abilities.

The most confusing thing about it is that somehow the first few times I tried it after I got the game, it made the fleets and squads just how I want them effortlessly, and now it seems I can't do it.

Weird. Wondering if it could be worth poking the devs about?

Thanks again.
