Gal Civ ll ULTIMATE EDITION

Game runs fine when I am zoomed out but as soon as I zoom in to planets game movement becomes jerky. I have the latest drivers for my video card which is a 8800 NVIDIA GTS. Can anyone help. Can't find the patch file at impulse to upgrade to 2.03 but my game is 2.02.

I have a similar problem with Gal Civ Ultimate Edition (just updated via Impulse). The game is unplayable due to exessive jerkyness even at lowest settings (which are ugly anyway). My computer isn't exceptionaly powerful but it meets min specs and I was able to play the demo flawlessly with high settings. My graphics card is a GeForce 5500 with the best drivers for it is decided by NVidia scan thing. My processor is a 2.4 Ghz Celeron and I have 1.12GB of DDR RAM. I am running up-to-date Windows XP.

This is a massive disapointment as the ultimate edition was a big expenditure for me as a student. As far as i am concerned, one of the key uses of demos is to determine whether a game works on your computer before you buy it and it is therefore unaceptable for a game to not work when the demo does.

Disabling antialiasing should do the trick. GeforceFX cards are really not very capable of doing AA.

As I said, I tried setting everything as low as it could go including turning antialiasing off (it was the first thing I tried) and yes, I did restart the game before testing. As with the starter of this thread, performance is fine if I don't looks at anything or are zoomed out loads (I missed that out in my first post). Also there is even jerkiness on the ship design editor and race creator screens that include a render of a ship(s). Menus and everything run fine. What I don't get is how I can run games like Torchlight, Audiosurf and Portal no problem but not Gal Civ 2!

Edit: After some experimentation, I disovered that is solely ships that re problematic (deleted starting ships on a new game and it runs fine) - hope this helps. Maybe there was some fancy ship rendering effect added in a expansion pack that my graphics card isn't very good at?

Try toggling the enhanced ship rendering option too, then.

Please open your debug.err file in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem. The location you'll find the debug.err in varies depending on which game you're playing:

Dread Lords: My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2
Dark Avatar: My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar
Twilight of the Arnor: My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor

Older versions may store the debug directly in the location the game is installed at.

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug will be erased and recreated for the new session.

I presumed that would be pointless as there is no actual error. If you want my specs, i'll send you a .nfo file

The debug files contain the useful parts of your dxdiag report as well as other information.
