shops not automating

Am running Win7 64bit and Gall Civ2 Endless Universe ToA 2.03

Just started playing and my ships (suvey ship and miner) have stopped automating.

I have to manually reclick automate on each vessel otherwise they just stand there in space doing nothing.

I've verified my install via impulse. Have I missed anything ?
