A fixed universe

Hi there,

Been playing Sins for quite some time and it always has been a bittersweet experience for me, but recently I had a thought...would having one huge fixed universe (systems and planets with official names, established jumpholes/trade routes etc) improve the gameplay? I only play sins in SP and realise this could be a potential solution to some of the things I really dislike about this game:

1) planets/systems that are colonized have little individual significance (who actually remembers any of the planet names, esp on a large map?!)

2) the sandbox mode, alongside lack of storyline removes a significant element of immersion in the game for me.

Taking over the universe one system (let alone planet!) at a time might sound pretty heavy going, but to take the idea further - the "universe" could be divided into several sectors therefore breaking up the campaign.

If this is something someone has already explored, I apologise - I looked for a while in the forums but couldn't see anything. Please let me know what you think or if a mod has already been created that does this sort of thing, I would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction!

Is this a campaign suggestion? or just a general game-improvement suggestion.

Yeah not really sure... I know there's loads of suggestions for campaigns. It's just an idea I thought I'd put down, see what people think so put it in general.

Alrighty, just found loads of people with similar views...sorry for wasting time.

that brings up an idea.... what if they made a multiplayer mode akin to WoW, where each account you create sets you to one race, and theres this set "universe" and the players with the same faction are allies and such, and its a never ending conquest for control of the whole universe.

building off his idea, the universe would hold sectors, sectors would hold galaxies, galaxies would hold systems, and systems hold planets.

and whatever planets/systems you conquer, when you log off, they are given over to you're "faction", and somebody later could take over where you left off conquering.

there would still be the regular multiplayer, of course. but alas, this would take a huge community to be any fun...

This looks like a suggestion to create an MMO version of Sins to me...

i like ths idea, but form a simply technical point of view:

i have a pretty powerful computer, but i have this one map with over 100 stars and about 1200 planets... after expanding into just 2 solar systems i start to experience some pretty bad lag, and ive never been able to finish a game...

unless the game is streamlined extremely or something else is done, i dont think Sins could handle this style of play.... but, Sins MMO, why not?
