Poll Results: Active users and their software

The last poll result provided some startling information. With 635 users responding in the few days it was up we got a reasonable gauge of the very active participants of this site:

76% of those who responded are Stardock customers.

6% admitted to using pirated software.

and 15% said they were using shareware or were just here for the freeware/wallpapers.

This is pretty interesting since it almost seems like there are two different groups: Those who are active participants of WinCustomize and those who just ues it to get stuff without looking at the rest of the site (WinCustomize averages around 35,000 UNIQUE visitors per day with around 2,000 people creating new accounts each day).

The next poll is now up, pleae check it out: What are your views on WinCustomize subscriptions (subscribers get a bunch of goodies including the skin browser, premium suite, and bonus site features in the future).

I''d love to see how many of those who are registered users, were once using a pirated version, and for how long before the reg''d. I think these numbers say a lot, and support what I''ve always believed: Truly good software, like truly good artists (musicians or otherwise) will be supported by those who recognize the value of their contributions. BTW, FWIW, I will confess to using WB for a *long* extended trial period, before finally subscribing to ODNT. I now find myself supporting all of Stardock''s projects. I tend to get infuriated by those authors who think they''re going to "enforce" trial periods, and "crippleware". If the product is truly good, they have nothing to worry about.

I remember playing with WindowBlinds several years ago, back when it was fairly new (pre 1.0, IIRC). At the time, I used it and eFx, and became very interested in skinning windows (I had experimented even earlier with writing my own apps with custom buttons and backgrounds, but that went nowhere (I`m a pretty lousy graphic artist )).

So, after trying (and pretty much liking) windowblinds, I subscribed to ODNT almost three years ago, and have been quite pleased. I feel much the same way about the Wincustomize subscription. I would do it even without the extra goodies, as it`s about the only way for me to help out (I`m a developer, not an artist, my graphics will stun animals and scare small children ).

I guess I fall somewhere in the middle of those who are very active participants, and those who just come for the stuff. I`ve started to recognize that the feedback to the artists is very important (oddly enough, it never really occurred to me until I started reading the message board on this site), and have made more effort to comment and respond.

All in all, I`m really glad that this site (and some of the others) are here, and that the works of some of the finest artists I`ve seen is available for us to enjoy. That, to me, makes it worthy of what support I can provide.

Enjoy

I at one time used Pirated Windowblinds....However, after seeing how much I liked it. I finally purchased WindowBlinds about 3 years ago. Then I purchased Object Desktop, Followed by one of the CD''s. And most recently the Skin Browser. I am a happy User, Skinner and Member. I could not be more happy after purchasing all this.....I even went as far as purchasing the Pixtudio and Logika suites from Pixtudio. And once it''s available I will purchase their new suite, UniverseMetal.
