Object Desktop Upgrade-a-palooza!

In the next few days you're going to see a host of updates to individual parts of Object Desktop. First ObjectBar 1.21, then DesktopX 1.2 and then WinStyles 1.2.

This is because Object Desktop 2002 is nearly complete. Object Desktop 2002 will be available on CD to subscribers to ObjectDesktop.net for free (other than a modest media/shipping fee).

Over the past year, Stardock has been working to improve the documentation on Object Desktop and its components as well as integrate them together so that they work together more seamlessly. Many times individual parts of them had just too many rough edges to be used together.

To this end, WinStyles is being redesigned to be a true theme manager with a new look and easy to use interface. DesktopX is being sped up dramatically so that users can run it full time without feeling like they're dragging down their system. ObjectBar 1.21 now will share your DesktopX (and all plugins that conform to SDPlugin) plug-ins. DesktopX 1.2 even comes with a new media player that uses less memory than other media players while being much more flexible than anything out there since DesktopX objects can interact with it.

Stardock is also working on a single master control program, a low level service that allows all the Object Desktop components to share the same system hooks which will improve performance further.

Stay tuned, many new updates about to come your way...

I recently purchased ODNT and am glad I finally did. Will the new version be available ONLY on CD?

How does OD subscription renewal work? Do I just go to the site and pay again or does Stardock send me an email with a renewal link? Can I pay in advanced?

Too many questions!

(yes I should email Stardock but it is broke atm and newgroups are bloked at this pc)

component manager starts warning you when your subscription is nearly out (i think at 1 month to go).

then you can go to the site, and just order a 12 month renewal, at the renewal price.

once that has been processed, use the "update configuration" button in component manager's "user information" tab, and it picks up your new expirey date.

nice and simple

I just got my notice that my subscription was going to expire. Thanks for the extra nudge to re-up. I realize that was the intent of this article, but what can I say? I'm a weak, weak, man.

This is great! I have wanted to have a copy of OD on CD ever since I subscribed. Whenever I use the backup & restore feature of the component manager, I always wind up getting errors. This will be a great way to back up my investment. Thanks.

I've been a member of the ODNT since February of 1999. I have always loved the products and thuroughly enjoy the method of updating them. Congrats to all the people involved with this software and I hope that over the next several years the growth and success of Stardock continues.

I just re-subscribed to OD a couple of weeks ago. This is my second time subscribing and I plan to continue for as long as OD is available. Anytime a new friend happens to see my computer desktop, the questions start: Where can I get it? How much is it? etc, etc. Even the guy who helped me install my cable modem was extreamly impressed and requested the web site so that he could order it.
Skinners keep up the fantastic job.

Having been a subscriber to Object Desktop for the past two years I'm VERY happy to hear that they're finally releasing a new CD - between the program and WinCustomize, I can't imagine running a Windows-based system without the program. And since I've upgraded from Win98, WinME and now to WinXP, I'm hoping that adding Object Desktop will be even easier in the coming months. Downloading the updated versions can be a hassle when installing on a new system.
