Skin authors: Making skins easier with SkinStudio

http://www.skinstudio.net
One major feature of the full version of SkinStudio (on Object Desktop or available stand alone) is its ability to import parts of skins into your creation.

So if you have created many skins in the past, you can vastly reduce your effort on new skins by using parts from previous skins you've created. When I make skins, I make use of scrollbars and other bits and pieces that most people don't really look at as being that distinct so that I can focus on the title bar and borders of my window (along with the Start menu).

If you're like me, you've probably had great ideas for skins but not had the time to go and create a full blown visual style from scratch. Using the import feature can save you massive time.

Note that you should never submit a skin in which you've imported parts from OTHER people's skins.

WinCustomize should not accept skins that are rips. Even if the skin has one single element that the "author" has not created and is the work of someone else. What if the real author doesn't visit WinCustomize everyday, or he or she is on vacation not knowing that someone has rip his work?

We try not to accept rips. But unfortuately, the moderators have not been implanted with the instant knowledge of every skin that exists in the world and hence cannot instantly identify that a given checkbox image was taken from another skin.

That's one of the upcoming WinCustomize premium skins for subscribers.

Yes, it is impossible for moderators to have knowledge of all skins. I was thinking more of a solution seen at winamp.com. Every skin they show has an option for people to say if it is a rip, then moderators could take it away if the person is right.

I guess that if you import from your other skins you are throwing out creativity and originality. Also uniqueness. I think I read about these somewhere!!!
