Clarification on combat mechanics needed please.

Hi all.

Myself and a friend bought Sins Trinity yesterday, and as the type of person I am, before even really playing the game, I already find myself looking at damage types vs. armour types, max accelerations and velocities and mechanics of trade routes and refineries.

I have a question to the community which has come about because of a mismatch of information I have found on the web:

In the "Combat Mechanics" post stickied at the top of the Strategy subforum, aswell as in the "sins reference sheet" on Google Docs which I found, Light Frigates are said to do 50% damage to 'Very Heavy Armour'. However, on the Sins Wikia, under "Ship Types", Light Frigates are said to do full damage, so 100% to heavy armour.

Which of the above is true?

And if its not too much trouble, after reading Ptarth's "Combat Mechanics" post, I am still rather confused on the topic of accuracy and probability to hit. Could someone explain the mechanics behind that?

And finally (I promise, last question), armour values (not type) are said to reduce damage inflicted by 5% per level (so (damage_inflicted) = (damage_dealt) / (1+armour*0.05) ). How does this interact with the damage type vs. armour type, so say basic assault frigates dealing only 75% damage to scout frigates. Will the final damage inflicted on the target be (damage_output * 0.75) / (1+armour*0.05) ?

I apologise for throwing these questions out in my first post, but for me to enjoy the game, I need to understand what is happening.

I do hope these can all be answered, but if not, don't worry.

Regards.

Oh and P.S. Hello to the community!

answer to first question is LF (light frigates) do anti-heavy damage, hence their damage table is this
        DamagePercentBonus:ANTIHEAVY:CapitalShip 0.5
        DamagePercentBonus:ANTIHEAVY:VeryLight 1.0
        DamagePercentBonus:ANTIHEAVY:Light 0.75
        DamagePercentBonus:ANTIHEAVY:Medium 1.0
        DamagePercentBonus:ANTIHEAVY:Heavy 1.5
        DamagePercentBonus:ANTIHEAVY:VeryHeavy 0.5

you can find this in the gameplayconstants file in the gameinfo folder of the game

second as to the accuracy issue, most ships will hit each other 100% of the time. There are a few gravwells were this is reduced (asteriod belt for ex.). Also when attempting to hit a strike craft accuracy is factored in
    DamageData
        ChanceToHitTargetType:ANTIVERYLIGHT
            CAPITALSHIP 1.00000
            INTERCEPTOR 0.750000

Yeah, the stickies are mostly outdated in the strategy forums.  Only one or two of them are actually being maintained, so most of them are a few version old.  There are a few that are completely broken or so outdated as to be useless, and need to be taken down.

hey get on ico and play mp
End of MindsEye's quote

Hey MindsEye, don't you worry. Both my friend and myself look forward to getting good enough to come online and play other people. We much prefer player other humans compared to the AI.

How active is the multiplayer community for this game? Is it easy to find a game? I imagine the games take rather a long time to complete, so require a few sessions to get through a single game? Are multiplayer games often seen to the end, or do the players not usually reconvene after the first session?

Also, I read somewhere that to be able to stand a chance online, one should be able to easily beat 4 Hard AIs? Is this accurate? And are the 4 AIs all allied together in this case? It seems like its going to be quite the challenge, as I'm struggling against Easier AIs right now.

Beating AI's and beating players are very different things.  You can play singleplayer for all eternity, you won't be ready to repel a hard rush or deal with the heavy capital ship focus fire you will receive.  The important thing is to learn the game and know what everything does.  If you at least know what every unit is capable of, you should be fine.

It can be tuff to get a game depending on what time you log.If you are in the us the evening is best time I would say.Games usually last about 1.5 hours but rarely go to 3-4.It is possible. Most time once you have crushed your enemies fleet or hw they quit. There are some guides as to how to play mp made by people like raging amish.Do a search I think its in strategy section.Follow those guides and then get on ico.
