Microsoft has just released the so much anticipated Service Pack 1 for Windows XP, this is a collection of bug fixes and "enhancements" one of them the so much talk about feature for disable their middleware prgrams such as messenger, media player and internet explorer.

But be aware that the download can be time consuming expecially if you don´t have a broadband connection, and it takes some time to install. If you really want to have the latest updates or have´t updated for a time your PC it can be a good download.

While messenger is a nuisance in my opinion Microsoft has big plans for it well beyond a messenger system. I'm no expert but it had to do with linking of websites etc etc. I'm sure you could always reinstall it if you wanted to try out some new aspect of it. Regardless having the option to uninstall something you dont want on your system is a great step forward and I might add only became possible because of people protesting programs being rammed down our throats.
