Freaking game stores.

Recently I found something online that I really wanted to purchase (hint: name starts with an E). But I'm lacking the cash. So I think about my options for a while-still in highschool, no job, no more auctioning off organs on Ebay-and finally decided to try and turn in a few of my old xbox 360 games that I'd already beaten or come to hate. I settled on bringing in 3- Too Human, Project Sylpheed, and Overlord. The first and last were actually good, so I was expecting to get about 7 bucks for each. The rest I could probably borrow/beg from my parents.

Oh how wrong I was.

I go into the store, walk up to the counter, and tell the salesperson that I'd like to trade in my games. He scans them and we make small talk. Then he tells me how much he could give me for them.

$6.20.

TOTAL.

He seemed like a nice guy, so I didn't try to push it, but good god damn. 6 bucks for three xbox games?

Anyone else find out the ugly truth about game tradeins?

I consider myself kind of a collector of sorts so I never get rid of my old games. I used to frequent a few of the stores though back when they still had a good selection of PC games and watch them ripping off kids with their trade ins. a game they give 5 bucks for would be on the shelf the next day for 35 or more. It's totally ridiculous. I guess the people that don't mind goig through with it either really don't put much in the percieved value, or it was parent's money that bought them to begin with therefore detaching them from the loss.

This is where craigslist comes into the picture.

I've sold the majority of games I was no longer interested in to some people on there, usually for around what gamestop charges.  Just be sure to meet some place public, rather than at your house.

Another alternative is goozex, but I haven't used them in ages.  It was a good experience though.

I sell some of the games I do not want anymore on amazon.

Sure they take a cut but I get about half the game price when I sell. Better than 6$
