Dreams not playing full screen

Hi guys

Recently I've been experiencing a problem in that of my Dreamscenes do not stretch full screen, leaving my 1600X900 desktop looking than impressive.

These Dreamscenes used to play fullscreen on the exact same version of Deskscape but alas no more.

Anybody have advise for me please?

Thanks

Sabaki

It sounds like the aspect ratio of the dreams differs from your screen.

You can alter how dreams are stretched to fit from the background settings tab at the bottom of the deskscapes user interface.  You may want to use the fill option.

Hi Neil

Tried that, no success. Could the program have corrupted and require me to reinstall? All my Dreamscenes worked up and until about 2 days ago.

Mine started something like that too but it was last year.  I've tried uninstalling and that did not work.  My Dreams is worthless seems that almost every dream is WAY to big for my screen.  And, before you ask...I have a Widescreen monitor viewing at 1680x1050 pixs.

If I can't find a fix for this, well...I've just stopped using Dreams.

Have you tried updating your Codecs?  I only mention this because I was having some problems with some dreams but not others, soon as I installed the Vista Codec pack everything went back to normal.

I am still however unable to install the latest version of Deskscapes because when I do my computer just Reboots with-out any warning, so I just rolled back to the previous version and I have Zero issues with the older version.  There are a lot of really kewl things you can do with the new version, but when it sinks the ship it's gotta go... I've tried 3 different times over a 4 or 5 month period, no luck, each time I installed it I got a similar issue, out of the blue reboot, Opening Joint Ops or Battlefield Vietnam.

The team thinks it's my computer, but I only have problems when Deskscapes 3 is installed.  My computer is normally up 24/7 because I run a server off of it and only rebooting when Microsoft does an update that requires it or I feel it's time to reboot... could be a week or could be 2 or 3 weeks before I think about rebooting.  I'll just continue using the version that works for me.

I have 2 gigs of ram, X1300/X1550 Radeon, 2 Monitors 1 19" Normal, and a 22" wide screen, near 700 Gigs of hard drive, Dual Core 2 X 4800+.  My Base Score is 4.0, or lowest score, I believe the lowest score you can have to run Deskscapes is 3.4 or somewhere around there.

Any how try updating your Codec, you can find them here:  http://www.mediacodec.org/download/ .

Unless somethings changed, as long as you can run Aero (which is a Windows Experience Index Graphics score of 2.0), you can use dreams.

If your version of Windows can play DVDs you should not need to install Codec packs. Codec packs will normally do more harm than good and one of the worse things you can do is install multiple codec packs. In this case the best thing to do after you uninstall them is to use "Installed Codec" to finish disabling the ones left over from the uninstall.

If any of you installed new video drivers lately, you may want to try removing them and installing the version that you had prior to the update. Note: Always be sure to uninstall the old drivers before updating.

Also, here's a good page to aid in trouble shooting DeskScape problem.

Didn't seem like anyone was going to give you any suggestions, so pardon me for making one.  Personally I've been using the Vista Codec pack and have had no il effects.

Did you upgrade your nvidia video drivers recently?

Hi Neil

My relevant PC specs. 64bit Windows 7, 4gig RAM running Nvidia 8800 GTS with a Windows Experience Score of 5.9. Hope that's capable enough.

Was running the Geforce Driver 196.21 (64bit) from the time that I installed Windows 7 on my PC. Dreams was running normally without a hitch. While still on 196.21, the glitching began. I have since updated my driver to Geforce 196.75 (64bit) and the problem is persisting.

And like Peggy, my PC also restarts on it's own.

Need any other information Mr Banfield?

Peggy,

Suggestions are always good and everyones are welcome here. Please don't take what I said the wrong way.

Some codec packs can cause issues with DeskScapes like hesitaion at the loop of a dream. Sometimes, when people install more than one pack, you can end up with conflicts that are hard to work out.

Other times you are lucky and they don't cause problems, as in your case.

As far as I've seen, the Microsoft Mpeg2 codec works very well with DeskScapes so if your version of Windows came with it, there is no need to install other codecs to run dreams.

There are other reasons to install codec packs like DivX, M2TS, TS, H264, and quicktime support, just to name a few. In most of those cases, it's better to just install the codec you need for the format you want to play.

It's a real shame about version 3 not working on my computer,  there are lots of really kewl things added to version 3 you can do to your dreams.  It's only when I have version 3 installed that my computer Reboots out of the blue...  I forgot to mention, I am running Vista Ultimate on 32 Bit foundation... because I have some older software that won't run in 64 bit, so don't ask.

I've not been leaving tips or anything else here because I seem to always get some one's dander up or an argument started just for trying to help another user, as seen here.... Quoted from above - "one of the worse things you can do is install multiple codec packs", which is in fact NOT TRUE.  I've not heard of any ill effects from anybody else in regards to this.  But like I said, this is why I've not been so willing to help folks and it's getting less and less... right CarGuy...  seems the moment I say something somebody has to jump on it.... well nobody else seemed to be giving you any other answers, it'd been 6 (six) days and nobody else gave you any suggestions, so I thought I'd help, but hey what do I know.

Shin-Sabaki, it'd be really neat if you installed the multi-codec pack and your problem went away... you should give it a try just for the h3LL of it, worst comes to worse you'll have to un-install, or do a roll back.

Hi Peggy2

I installed the codec pack but the problem persists :(

Thank you so much for the advice though, I truly appreciate that :)

You say the glitching started while you were still on the same drivers as before.  Did you update Deskscapes just before the glitching started?

What version of Deskscapes did you have installed before the problem started?

I can't figure that out :( It was the version before the latest one

If the problem started when you changed video drivers then the problem will be a bug in the video drivers.

Looking at those screenshots it looks like nvidia have broken stretching.

whatever I try it does not work.  When I first got Dreams they work wonderfully, but now, its garbage.  only about 3 dreams work like they should.  Some people on this post seem to think that everyone is stupid and don't know shit about computers, that is not the case here.

can't Stardock just give us a link to download the OLD versions that WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

runvs: Could you provide more information on the problem you are having?

sure happy too.  the dreams don't fit the screen 1680x1050 I have tried the background settings but they do nothing.  On most all of the dreams I only see the top left corner of the dream.  This is a new computer and widescreen monitor DELL E228WFP and ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT video card.  They used to work but now do not.  I've uninstalled, that does nothing.

Does changing any of the background settings impact it in any way?

Also which operating system are you using?

Have you installed the latest video drivers for your graphics card?

Changing the background setting does vary little, does not change the aspect of the screen at all.

I'm running Vista Home.

I have all the lastest software and drivers installed.
