For The Want Of Something Better To Do

or the things we do when we're bored shitless

http://www.thermaltake.com.au/Products/Chassis/VJ40001W2Z/V9.aspx

Yesterday!!!   It was one of those days!  I'd read the news, been to majorgeeks to see what's new in the way of software, etc, and I'd been to WC. Quite frankly, there was bugger all of interest anywhere, so I trundled down the street to my fave PC store, just to poke my head in and let 'em know I was still alive.  I guess the other reason was boredom and finding something more interesting to do... which after a bit of ho-humming turned out to be spending money.

This Thermaltake case caught my eye and the rest is history.... I bought it.  Yup, that gave me something to do alright.  I was going to put my main rig into the new box, my spare rig into my current box and the guest rig into my current spare box, leaving a spare case for my sister's upcoming spare rig.

Right now I'm not too sure this was all a good idea.  While I've managed to get my main rig mostly together, I have to wait until Monday before I can get it going.  The 8-pin plug lead from the PSU to the mobo is about 4 inches too short (PSU now on the bottom... socket's at the top) and I have to get an extension before I can fire the beast up.  Oh well, I still have my trusty spare, which went into it's new home like a dream.

I've made a start on the guest machine, but figured with nobody expected there's no hurry, so I'm taking a break from hardware bits for a bit. I realise now that I need to better organise this spare rig, though.  While I have some Stardock proggies on it, I've not set up anything else and it's pretty much a bare bones OS and I have no add-ons or anything in FF to simplify things, like piccies through Imageshack, etc.  Gotta sort all that out, then I'll post a pic of how my rig looks in its new case.

Anyhow, I'll be buggered if I'm cooking tonight, so I'm off down the street for a Subway.  See ya's

Not bloody likely!   If there's any curried cabbage about... it gets eaten.

Now thars a thought t' ponder!  If'n ye stored curried cabbage digitally like that, 'ow wuld ye extract it fer eatin' lat'r on?

Yeah, I have 2 TB internally and 2 TB externally... though one of those externals will go to mrs starkers PC, now that I've transerred everything over to the one I just set up.

Have fun.

That I will do!  I like tinkering inside computers (building, repairing), so this current exercise is right up my alley.  My sister arrived yesterday with the remaining parts for her spare rig, so now I have that and the guest rig to finish.

Hehe, yeah, that might work... in a well ventilated area, of course.  I'm just wondering if it'd taste the same afterwards.... and would it still have the same methane producing qualities???

I mean.... don't wanna take all tha fun out of it, do 'e? :-"

Thing is, they didn't have any Lian-Li cases in stock... and ordering one in would have killed off the impulse... that "Quick, gimme summat to do before I go nucking futs.", thing.  Like I said, it was for the want of something better to do, and while there's suff around here to do (and still needs doing) none of that was going to ease my 'I'm going cuckoo with boredom' thing.

Anyway, I am more than happy with the Thermaltake case I ended up with and I'm sure it will serve me well for several years to come...

(website shot, but will post pics of my setup when I get some digicam batteries)

While there was/is nothing wrong with the previous case, I wanted to get away from the PSU being at the top and blowing hot air into the case, and this Thermaltake case allows me to do that.  Being it houses my primary machine, and it is slightly overclocked, I wanted something cooler inside.  What's more, this case is much easier to work in/on, with tool-less everything and a much better setup with the HDD's across the front, leaving more space lengthwise for my GTX260.  Before I had to re-arrange my drives to accomodate it... now there's a good 3 inches to spare.

Well the 8 pin extension lead  I ordered came in and I picked it up this afternoon, so yes, I'm back on my old beast in its new case.  I took a while, though!  Had to give mrs starkers a bell with all the latest news beforehand, and by the time I'd done that, eaten and washed up, it was around 11.30 pm before I got started.

Anyway, it's done now and I like the look of it..... and that red light up front.... I'm sure that makes it go faster. :-"

Um, yeah!  Easier said than done when mrs starkers has the digicam with her in Tassie. o_O

Oh well, it's only 8 days away.
