Deskscape raises explorer.exe cpu usage

i have tried the deskscape trial, and despite the movie claiming that it wont affect performance, whenever dreamscape is active my cpu usage goes quite high. i didnt find one .dream yet with below 10% cpu usage. golden has like 50% cpu usage. and most others hover around 25.

the moment i pause deskscape, the cpu usage drops to about 0.

specs:

win7 pro fully updated

[email protected]

4gig ram

gtx295 latest driver

motherboard drivers installed

is that normal? the system works fine otherwise, and is in permanent use.

Decoding videos can use cpu and the amount depends on the video itself (WMV files use more than MPEG2 typically) and the ability of your graphics card to perform video decoding.  I believe ATI do more offloading than nvidia do for example.

Dreams such as Desktop Earth, Desktop slideshow, Vintage dream, water dream and winter snow (all included with Deskscapes trial) should show much lower cpu usage than say Planktonic which is a WMV based video dream.

watching any kind of movie on windows media player, zoom or VLC takes like 2-6% cpu usage. i'm using a 1920x1080 monitor btw.

so i guess there is no known fix?

That would certainly be unexpected as I would have expected the two to have very similar cpu usages.

Are the movies HD resolution (1920x1080) or DVD resolution?

the only full HD movies i got are .ts format (recorded from sat tv) and wmplayer has 0-2% cpu usage on those.

on the "desktop earth" included in the demo, the cpu load is 15% and higher. on big blue sea HD its 50%.

I have similar symptoms (although the laptop I have does not such a nice solid state drive), were there any updates?

There are a lot of MPEG2 formats and codecs out there - is there a bench mark that I could use to see if I have a codec problem or there is a problem with dreams?

There are loads of the dynamic dreams I just don't want to run and would like to.

Thanks,
