Importing the 3d creature models [created with Spore's Creature Creator] to Elemental. Maybe it will be possible?!

Take a look at this topic: http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/37155.page

You can actually export the 3d models, what you create with Spore's Creature Creator. In fact, it looks like, that you can convert those exported files to .3ds format even.

Tasunke posted this video in an other topic, check it out [dragons created with Spore's CC.] -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JB8rEtC-d3Y

You actually don't need to buy Spore to get the Creature Creator (and NO I don't mean Pirate it). They gave out the Creature Creator for free a good while before the game came out. It was so people would be able to create their creatures ahead of time and it showed off what the creator could do. It was a Demo pretty much. You can probably still get it off the Spore site somewhere.

I'm actually Very Interested to know if this will work. I've made some really awesome things my-self for Spore. 3D modeling and animation isn't one of my strong points. Skins, Textures, no problem. Scripting in XML, no problem. Understanding Python, got the basics. I'm screwed on modeling though.

I do have all the necessary software though. I've got a registered version of 3DsMax, Maya, Dreamweaver, and a couple other lesser known programs. My copy of 3DsMax is a few years old now and I might have to renew the license but I'm sure it'll still work. If we can import the models and animations from Spore though it would be way easier for me as that's just a batch conversion.

Yeah, I am pretty sure that it will work, since you can export the models to Maya or 3ds max, and you can convert it to Elemental format later on.

Also I think that we must buy Spore, since the model exporting only works with patch 5+. Not to mention that there are much more stuff in the retail version AFAIK.

That is an interesting feature.   To what format(s) does it export?  (I mean is it only max and maya?  With png wrap?)

The exporter will create a collada file (a .dae file), along with the specular, diffuse and normal textures. It will place them in your “My documents/My Spore Creations/Creatures/” directory

Now you can load it up in any 3D application that supports Collada. The plugins for most standard 3D applications (Maya, Max, Blender, Modo among others) can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&words=collada

Features are nice, but...  I don't know about the rest of ya, but every creature I or my kid made with that thing came out so cartoony and not something I'd want in a game like E.

But hey, features are good, would be cool to use if I actually did see a spore creature that 'did it' for me :)

Yep indeed most of them are [a bit] cartoony, however you can change those cartoony parts in the 3d modelling program, and they won't look cartoony at all. The basic shape of the creature body will be created using Spore's creator, and it's a good stuff...because that should be the hardest part with regard to creating new models. Making "little" changes to the model shouldn't be that hard. This will help a lot, trust me. :)
