Wonder Movies/ Project Movies
whats really important?
Has anyone noticed how wonder movies from Civ 2 (and Alpha Centauri) are just plain better than in Civ III and Civ IV?
I mean, Civ III was a (some-what backward) reinvention of the game, taking it into the unique direction that made Civ IV what it is today. Now, Civ IV took that direction and turned it from Phail to BAD ASS.
Not to say I didn't like Civ III, I did, and it seemed a lot more user friendly than Civ 2. The Point remains, however, that the uniqueness of Civ2's videos was lost on Civ III and Civ IV as they focused on their own art, focused less on historical clips ... and even focused less on being quirky and more on being faceless.
I mean ... Civ III and Civ IV, while amazing, are totally FACELESS!!!! I think that is part of the reason why Fall From Heaven did so well, is because they took a system that was User Friendly (Civ IV) and added their own face to it. Now, without advisor movies, or nifty wonder movies, its not the same uniqueness as in Civ2 or Alpha Centauri ... but it is still pretty well done.

this is a video of Civ2's Hoover Dam. In Civ IV, youll just see a cartoony Dam being slowly built by thousands of colorful legos ... instead of realistic clips of real people set to nifty music.
Now, I think Civ III could have done a lot better if they kept the things that made Civ 2 good while keeping Civ III's engine and user accessibility.
Also, I hope they do something similar to Alpha Centauri with Civ 5 ... I mean they HAVE the awesome engine/user accesibility they have been wanting/waiting for ... now why not divert assets into some of the old school creativity? (even if it often boiled down to corniness)
Anyways, I am not saying that elemental needs a mini movie with either Silent Clips or Diaologue set to stirring music everytime a grand quest is completed, wonder is built, or technology is researched ... but it would be nice to keep a deeper connection to the WORLD of Elemental that you have envisioned, and not to make it a Faceless "build-a-Spore".
